That's why the rules are unofficial.
My rule: If you're gonna send a friend request, put a small note in it, even if it just reads: "hey, seen ya about, friends?" then you know that even a tiny bit of effort has been put in.
Amen! I cannot stand a friend request with nothing. Not that difficult to write a little something.
