Topic What is a more important factor for happiness: Sex or Money?
Posted 17 Jun 2013 11:55
If I'm not mistaken then money and finances causes more arguments in relationships than the lack of sex. Not to mention that it brings stress and anxiety.
I think the question is quite individual. After all, sex doesn't necessarily mean love. A sex with a prostitute is still sex, but is it really all that? And what if you have kids? Is sex more important than money then? Is the sexual satisfaction you get more important than making sure that your kids are fed and clothed as well as securing a future for them?
It's one of these simple questions that have a complicated answer that's unique for every individual.
Topic It’s OK in Texas to shoot a woman for refusing to have sex! You're within the law.
Posted 14 Jun 2013 19:07
It's not really an issue about ownership, more a question of what this guy's first course of action was. It wasn't based on his knowledge of the law and the thought that he'd get away with it. It was more down to the culture of sorting out your problems with an assault rifle.
He went and got his AK47 and opened fire on a moving car in the dark for the sake of $150. Of course the worse thing is, the law has backed him up. Shop-lifters beware!
That only counts if it's in the night time! So parents of Texas, if you're gonna teach your kids one valuable lesson it's this; If they're gonna be bullies and steal from the other kids make sure that they do it in the daytime, because if it's during a class sleepover the little victim can use deadly force to protect his snicker's bar.

If you have a well written and interesting story going, then don't worry about the long build up. Think of it as long foreplay. That just makes the finish that much better.
Think Buz touched on the important thing here; if you're having a long build up then you need to get a way to captivate the reader quite quickly, maybe in the first couple of paragraphs. That doesn't mean you have to give it up all in the start, but just a hint of something that makes the reader go "Ok, this could be good."
I have nothing against a long build up, but then it is vital that the build up is very good and to be honest it has to be vital to the story. A sentence here and there of the sort of "He threw away the cheap sandwich and got moving again" is ok, but just don't spend too much time on things that doesn't drive the story forward.
Pretty much imagine the story as an old man telling it, and then weed out whatever part makes you think "oh for christ sake old man, get on with it!"

How about an option for the commenter to leave the comment hidden for anyone but the moderators(to make sure nothing naughty is said) and the author?
I have posted several stories and not once have I seen a comment with constructive criticism. I know I'm not a perfect writer, otherwise I would have at least been amongst the honorable mention in all comps and all stories would have had an Editor's Pick. I don't leave the comment or votes up just because I want praise. Hell, I think the story was good enough for publication. I don't get paid for posting here, so I'm pretty pleased with my story. Things can be done better, but what?
Maybe some people will find it intimidating to post a "you could do this and this better" on someone's story simply because there are 20 comments earlier from esteemed writers that says "Awesome increadible story" and if you post something critical you appear like a bit of a snob or a twat. After all, when leaving a comment you do put yourself out there, not just to the author but also to everyone who looks at the comment field.
And yes, I'm fully aware of that you can just get your arse moving and send a PM, but if you're as lazy as me you probably won't.
Topic Porn video games + Oculus Rift
Posted 13 Jun 2013 15:50
Not long ago Oculus Rift was shown, which is basically a pair of glasses that you put on and you stare right into two computer screens. You can see how a couple of Norwegian journalists reacting to it here . As you can see, the screen follows the movements of your head.
Now a Belgian company is working on a porn version of it. It's only in the beginning face, but you can see a really short demo of it here
Question is; do you think a porn version of this could become a big thing?
My idea is that it actually could become something. Sure, it will recuire that you actually buy the damn thing, and you need to buy the games, so maybe it will only be horny geeks who can't get laid that buys it(although that's still a big market
), but imagine being able to move around and see the two girls getting on at each other, and then with a flick of your finger get one of them to move over and give you a blowjob. Look down and you will see her head bob up and down as she sucks your cock. You won't see your greasy lubed up hand stroking it, so in VR it will actually look like it's a woman that's stroking it.
Considering that usually when we masturbate we use fantasy, and here you can pretty much pick whatever fantasy you want and it will visualise in front of you. Add to how the new engines for the games make the graphics disturbingly real life looking, it's pretty much like an interactive porn movie. Move forward a couple of years and couples can buy a game where they're "fucking" each other.
If you had the funds(and in time the price will decrease) would you buy it?

Let's not kid ourselves: Obama's not 'picking his battles wisely'. If he wanted to remove intrusive surveillance, he would've attempted to shove those changes down everyone's throats the same way he did Obamacare. He never had (well, except for when he ran for President- see video below) and still has no notion to walk this back at all. To suggest otherwise gives him and his administration way too much credit. He's obviously very much on board with everything that's being done.

Would it surprise you at all if this was something the NSA and FBI were doing without informing the president or anyone in the Administration simply because then they would have been shut down? Now Obama is left with a dilemma; either appear like a typical politician(i.e. say something and then not do it) or appear like he has no control over his military and federal agencies. Which is the better? Hell, with all the crap all kinds of different "security" organisations have been doing up over the years, I'm not surprised if they pulled off a stunt like this without telling the politicians.

Obama could have led the charge to do away with all of this massive attack on our privacy rights and civil liberties in the Patriot Act and all, but he instead has eagerly adopted its use. Shame on Bush, Shame on Obama, Shame on Congress.
Why did those acts appear? Due to the terrorism threat. People cried wolf and Bush made laws that suited that cry very well. But what I fear could just as easily have happened is that if Obama had stood on the podium saying that he would remove the Patriot Act. The opposition would have had a field day with saying that Obama is opening the country to terrorists and whatnots. With his attempt to get through Obamacare and later on the gun control as well as the budget every year, then you pretty much have a "pick your battles wisely" situation. Sadly, it seems as if people are willing to give up quite a bit of their civil liberties in order to be safe and have enough money to buy their second SUV...

I say this is another win for the terrorists who are now rubbing their hands together as they see the once free America turn into a country that's throwing more and more of it's freedom out the window to keep safe. It's like a modern 1984 or V for Vendetta society. Thankfully, this dude looks like a more likeable fellah than the arrogant Julian Assagne who reeks of a man that wants international recognition for Wikileaks as a sort of freedom fighter.
The positive thing is that as more cases like this gets uncovered the more pissed off people will get. I really hope and believe that it will force them to tighten the ropes on the dudes deciding to pull off stunts like this.
That said, I doubt the US is the only country where crap like this is happening, it's just happening at a much larger scale.

Umm I don't think it is that. Most of the men posing as women claim to be bisexual and then seek out a huge number of women to hook up with.
Or lesbians. I think it's actually more that it's easier for women to get laid than men as in that they don't really have to work for it. I put it down to simple lazyness instead of latent sexuality.

Unless you know you've been snipped or clipped or cauterized via laser (and you haven't told her beforehand).
Then hearing her surprisingly gleeful exclamation... is simply comedy fucking gold! Been there, experienced that, believe me - it is exhilarating.
So for great comedy get snipped, get a girlfriend you know will cheat on you, make sure she gets pregnant and watch as she tries to hook you forever but ends up with a dirtbag forever?
If I wasn't in a commited relationship and I one day want kids I'm a big enough arsehole to actually try that. Damn you for giving me that idea...

As long as your confidence from getting rid of all the weight show more than the insecurity about your boobs then you'll be fine. Thing is that confidence is the key. Topic 2 years after - Do you feel safer?
Posted 28 May 2013 16:12
No - the objective of terrorism is to exert your influence over political or other means by threats of violence - either suggested or acted upon.
It is not to make people worry about it . . . seems outright silly to suggest that. How are you to counter act anyone who's trying to do wrong if you're not worried in some slight bit?
Worry breeds awareness, safety and concern.
Seems that what you're wanting to say (perhaps) is that you shouldn't let it dictate your life to an infinitive degree . . . which defaults me into the 'fail' category seeing as how my family is military.
So you are all for the patriot act thingy, reduction of free speech, that the level for having a warrant for wire tapping your phone and knowing every site you visit on the interent, registiring every little file you download, is pretty much slim to none. Not to mention the fear of terrorism bringing on Guantanamo Bay and removing the human rights of people based simply on a "hunch".
All the freedoms that we have given up in order to be "safe" are in fact a series of victories for the terrorists.
And Ruthie, Osama bin Laden has pretty much been ostrochised from the rest of the family when he was branded as a terrorist. He also started going against the US after he saw his own country(Saudi Arabia) get in closer with the US, something he at all didn't like(mostly because his interests got lost when Saudi Arabia turned to the US after the Mekka attack).
Topic Dad thinks his daughter charged with sex crime b/c she's a lesbian.
Posted 27 May 2013 16:10
If I'm not mistaken then the 14yo's parents had forbidden her to see the 18yo. This is usually a bad idea because 1) you're her parent and anything you forbid them to do they'll automatically do and 2) If there really are feelings involved here, why should you fuck your kid's mind up more by making her a closet lesbian that struggles with her attachments and then go through a bunch of failed relationship just so you can seem like a "proper picture perfect" family?
Sure, the 18yo should have kept her pants on, but I doubt that the 14yo feels used by anyone than her parents. The real fuck up in this case is the parents of the 14yo, who don't like their daughter having bi/lesbian tendencies. If anyone is going to fuck up that kid it's them, and not the 18yo that introduced her to sex.

Topic Private pics can be copied by cellphone!
Posted 27 May 2013 06:52
I really doubt it. Considering that the screenshots that are being taken on cellphone is something that the OS on the phone does and not the site, I doubt there is any way you can protect your pics completely. As far as someone browsing on your computer I can instantly think of two ways to get your pictures on my hard drive, even if I can't right click and copy them, and that's without having any additionaly software. You should really be careful with what you put out there and who you give access to.
So unless I have underestimated Gav a whole lot, then there's nothing he can do I'm afraid, but I can't say that with 100% certainty.

It has now been a bit over 2 years since US special forces eliminated Osama bin Laden. The mastermind behind amongst others the embassy bombing and 9/11 is dead, but the question I wonder is; do you feel safer knowing that Osama bin Laden is dead?
Me, I don't at all. Not that I really feel like I'm in constant danger, however I can't say that I feel safer just because one dude is dead. Here's my arguments why: As they said on another documentary the last years of his life he hasn't really been that important to Al-Qaida in regards to the planning process. He has been the great leader and face outwards to the rest of the world, but just like the Queen of England he's had no real power other than a moral booster for his own troops.
Secondly, Al-Qaida isn't like a regular army when it comes to chain of command. It's mostly a group of splinter cells under one umbrella that gives them most of the funding and training, but they don't pick when and where the groups strike. Add to the fact that these cells are more than capable of functioning on their own.
Third, to be sucsessful a terrorist group doesn't have to make a new 9/11 scale bombing. Go into a mall, set off the bomb, make sure the Al-Qaida name is on it and you'll have people terrified for months. That's their goal, to make civilians scared, and they don't need a clear chain of command to do so.
So Lushies, how about you?

Thing is, Azerbaijan needs to be on Russia's good side. Who else is going to be willing to support a dictatorship with as much free press as China? If they lose the support of Russia then they're pretty much fucked. That's why this is a big deal. Eurovision isn't "just a competition" for many nations, it also has a lot to do with politics, especially in a country where the government(read: dictatorship) runs the national stations.
That said, nothing Eurovision has produced will ever be able to compare itself with Epic Sax Guy

I find it hard to believe that they would destroy clothing rather than give it to the homeless. From a purely pragmatic point of view, that's just stupid. Why not donate them to the Salvation Army, or some other charity and write them off their taxes?
On the other hand, this does seem very typical of the hatred that a lot of people seem to have for the poor these days.
It's not about the whole "Hatred for poor people", it's simply bad for business. They're not trying to be one of the lower end types, they want to appeal to the rich and those with a lot of money to spend on clothes. If the upper middle class is your target group, and the vain ones in this class as well, then having homeless people wear the same brand isn't good for business. After all, can you imagine watching a 17 yo cheerleader stereotype wearing the same jeans as a homeless woman?
Topic No Fat or Ugly People Wanted Wearing A & F Clothing
Posted 18 May 2013 10:54
The only way you can get away with being in the top of the foodchain of the market(i.e. not being percieved as a walmart manufacturer, but something cool and top of the line) you can't have "fat" people wearing your stuff. "Fat" people are the normal ones, and you don't want the image that "normal" people wear your clothes. It's the cool and trendy people, the type that everyone wants to be like. So, in turn other people will buy the same brand of stuff to be part of this group of cool people.
It is by far cynicism and exclusion on it's best, but that's just how it is. I've noticed it a lot around here too. Unless I go to one of the typical "suit" stores, I'll rarely find jeans in my size. I wouldn't say that 42" waist is really that big. It's more due to the fact that I'm so bloody tall, yet I'm sent to the "freak" department. I don't really care. Usually the people at that shop are more helpful, friendly and know their stuff better than the chick working at the top notch shops selling the top brands.
But this is capitalism for you. Capitalism cares only about the money and because of that has no problem considering people with certain characaristics as undesirable. In most cases it's "fat" people.
