This thread is destructive for me for several reasons.

1) I'm losing faith in humanity, quickly. And it's obvious that Social Darwinism is no longer in function, since it's the idiots who breed...
2) I keep getting reminded that people dumber than me are getting laid, while I'm not getting any. Disappointing.

Pot is a drug and once you get down that slippery slope it's just a short way from pot to heroine and cocaine. We need to stop people from becoming junkies and nip it in the bud. Best way to do that is to keep pot illegal and deter people from using it. If people have pain and so forth they can go on pharmaceutical medications that are 100% legal once they get perscribed. If we're to legalise everything because "everybody does it" then where do we stop? What about speeding, heavier drugs and so forth? It's the first step towards anarchy and that's what the terrorists want. Legalising pot means that the terrorists win.

Higher education; should all universities and colleges be free of charge(or a small nominal fee for all the paper you spend and so forth, so say 100 bucks a semester).

Why on earth should car insurance be compulsory? It's obvious that it's only a minimum of drivers who are responsible for the damages and they deserve to get the whole bill themselves, because all this does is damaging the law abiding drivers who never do anything wrong. I don't do bad stuff and I still have to pay car insurance because it's mandatory, when instead I could be spending those money on other things, like booze and fat food.

Because they're human, and humans react differently to situations. You can put two people in the same situation and they will react differently. It's not an absurd thought to put the two of them in the same category just because the situations are different and a few people's reactions are different. Who knows? Maybe the ones you know are the anomolies in their responses and reactions to the two situations. But odds are that in both situations the result will be the same; PTSD, even if it's a broad diagnosis.

It's not uncommon for guys to either have a crush on or sexual fantasies about women from games or animated movies(not actual living people). I'm sure the amount of guys who have masturbated while thinking of fucking a game character is quite staggering, but my question is this: does girls do the same? Of course it gives a nagging feeling, and it's honestly quite retarded that such a law should be necessary. I disagree with it, but just playing the devil's advocate to point out it's not just removing your freedom one step at the time.

Hopefully it will be one of those laws that they don't go looking for infringers, but more the type where people become aware of it and don't walk while texting because they don't wanna get fined. Besides, idiots will always find a way to get themselves killed.

That I have a place to be me, where I can flirt, joke and mess around without people frowning at me. And if they do it's no problem to turn a blind eye to it. Of course the people who accept me for me is a part of that. A big part.

It is simple. If you want cheap food then factory farms is the way to go. The quality will be lower, but there will be a larger production at a lower cost. If you want the typical family farm that has less of a factory look to it, then you're gonna have to pay.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I grew up on a farm, and being a farmer isn't a job. It's a lifestyle. It's not a job that you can leave at 4 in the afternoon and then head home to your appartment and do whatever it is you do. People aren't really aware of all the time that a farmer spends on tending to the animals, because it's not just dump some food in front of them and that's that, especially when it comes to the family style farm, because they are usually a whole lot more manual labour than automatic, simply because if you're gonna go more automatic in the feeding, milking and so forth of the animals the investments required to make it profitable are so huge that you have to go closer to the factory farm.

The prices you pay at the farmers market that you think are so expensive isn't necessarily because the farmer is a greedy fucker, it's because the farmer actually has to make a profit and for the farmer that runs the family style farm to make a living the prices has to be at the range they are. It's the standard businessmodel that you find in any company in the world.

People want the free range eggs, organic food and all that other crap, but when they realise what it actually costs they start complaining. It's the typical modern hypocrachy; we want the best and most ethical kind of food, but we're really not that willing to pay for it.

I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here and say why this law is a good thing

Ignoring the social darwinisim, then let's say that one of the "textwalkers" walk straight out into the road, get hit by a car and then it's over quicker than you can type LOL to your friend. The idiot is dead and won't be texting no more. But what about the driver? It's easy for us to sit here and say "Now now, it wasn't your fault", but newsflash; human phsyce doesn't work that way. How many soldiers haven't come home from war scarred by what they saw? No one suggests kicking veteran soldiers with PTSD in the ass and go "Too bad you didn't like it, son. That's war and all your friends died because they didn't remember their training or they just weren't good enough". So this law pretty much protects those who are innocent, which laws should do. Besides, add the pressure someone paralyzed puts on society in terms of loss of tax income, money spent on different things and so forth.

I'm not saying that it's a good law, but think about this; how many times have you been in such a hurry that you couldn't stop the necessary 30 seconds to type the text before walking on?

I would assume that your sucess is based on what kind of work you get involved in. Of course a good seller won't need the same level of IQ as a mathematician or engineer, same way you don't have to be a people person to solve equations.

Besides, what's the definition of sucess? If I'm in a job that I love and I earn 500 K NOK a year, am I then less sucessful than my supervisor that hates his job but earns 1 million?

China can do a lot by just using the same governance they have now; dictatorship. It will allow them to strike down on workers much more efficiently than what any western democracy. The working class is a powerful force, but when faced with a ruthless government that is more than keen on keeping status quo then they're pretty much screwed. Add the millions of people living in the rural areas that would love if a factory came to their area you can keep the costs down. The only thing they have to worry about are foreign customers who gives a damn about human rights before caring about profits. Usually most companies are willing to turn two blind eyes to bad environment as long as profits increase.
