Topic Here it is, the world's first Fat Tax!
Posted 07 May 2012 06:37

Denmark has had bad eating habits since the dawn of time. How many other countries is it considered normal to go out to lunch and have a few beers and then go back to work? The amount of obesity there is startling. Personally I think the thought behind it is a good one; make healthy food cost less than unhealthy food. Since I'm not aware of how they tax food in general in Denmark I'll just put up an example from Norway.

We pay 25% tax on pretty much everything we buy, apart from food. That's 14% tax. And that goes for any food, it be full grain bread or just a piece of fat. One store chain has made a positive move; they have lowered the cost on fruit and veggies and food items that are labelled with a green keyhole(which means that it's considered healthy) so that the price is what you would pay if there was no tax on it all. I think this is the way to go. Money rules and if you can put tax on the unhealthy stuff while having no tax on the healthy stuff you suddenly end up having cheap healthy food and more expensive unhealthy food.

I think that is a good initiative. If you're gonna choose a lifestyle that will make you fat and unhealthy and later on be an extra cost for society in terms of medical bills, then why not pay for it? I smoke and if I don't quit it will give me health problems, but I'm already paying a whole lot of tax for my tobacco and I don't have a problem with that.

It's also down to that a lot of people want to pick the healthy option for their families, but they realise that if they're gonna put food on the table every day a box of fat peanutbutter and sugerheavy jam is a lot cheaper than fish and lean meat.

In the short; healthy choices should be cheaper than unhealthy choices.

Reasons to why this article shouldn't be used as a fondation for any debate at all

1) It's in the Daily Mail. The only way it could have been a worse piece of journalism would have been if it was in The Sun

2) They've taken it from a German newspaper. Apart from the big serious newspapers, German newspapers have a fetish for scandals, bullshitting and poor journalism that makes journalists from The Sun go down on their knees offering blowjobs if they could be taught how to degrade themselves to their German collegues level.

3) A lot of shit tends to get lost in translation, especially when tabloids are involved.

Besides, isn't this debate more fitting for the Think Tank?

I just think this is some funny shit

I don't think I would like it if my girlfriend tried to go "I don't want you spending time with her." But I would make it very clear to her that she had nothing to fear from said girl.

But that said, I think that if you've been together a year it's not too demanding to want to spend New Year's eve together, and I consider it wrong by him to leave you on your own for New Year's, especially if you didn't really have any other plans. I don't know how the living situation is with the two of you, but surely he could have come hom and spent the night with you? The whole "But everyone else is sleeping over" is the reasoning you hear from a child, not a grown man.

Maybe I'm just a pushover, but I think he's in the wrong here and you have a right to be upset about it.

England always fails. They reach the quarter finals and crumbles. Hodgson will do his old "talents will get you relegated" appearance again and skip using players like Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott(would probably have dropped Wilshire too had he been fit) and go for the more experienced players that really aren't good enough. Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Italy. I have Croatia, Italy and France as outsiders to reach the semis, maybe along with Sweden, depending on who they meet afterwards.

I seriously can't understand why we should stick to just clicking like on a button when we can express our affection for a picture or a post with a long ass post to try to give people the illusion that not only do we know how to create a coherrant sentence, but we're also able to make it positive. I say we introduce a new rule to the forums. Unless the topic says so(like in the word games) every forum post must be at least 10 sentences long and each sentence must consist of a minimum of 5 words. I know I just broke that rule, but I'm a complete and utter idiot who really shouldn't be browsing the forums because I have nothing to contribute with other than mindless BS and my only intention is to belittle people so that not only do I put myself in a better light, but I also make myself feel better....

Topic Mom dying of cancer makes a plea to the FDA
Posted 01 May 2012 23:54

Maybe what you can do is put a boot up the beaurocratic system's ass and tell them to speed up the process. Maybe the drug trials can't be speeded up, but I have serious doubt that the FDA are as quick as they can be(for whatever reason it may be). They are a government run organisation after all.
And no, this is not me bashing the US. We have the same shit here, where there are drugs used to treat cancer in Denmark that still aren't allowed here. I wish it could be blamed on beurocracy, but it's not. It's doctors with prestige who refuse to accept the new drug that can cure the fucking shit, probably because they have some personal interest in it. Sad to see.

Topic Prison; revenge or rehabilitation?
Posted 30 Apr 2012 14:37

The argument with this thought though is that they had the same opportunities as everyone else. The public school system is open to all. So do we blame teachers for not doing their job in educating these people well enough so therefore they turned to crime?

So what about those that doesn't do well in theoretical subjects? You have a lot of kids that struggle to write a good paper and don't find interest in books or maths, but if you give them an old car they'll dig into it with more enthusiasm than a nerdy kid who gets an equation. But how many schools will adjust their schedule to take care of these kids, other than call them dumb? Is it any wonder these kids drop out of high school when it's all about theory? How many places will hire a stranger that's a high school drop out apart from McDonalds?

And then you have the kids that have unstable homes. Abusive parents or parents that doesn't give a shit. Victims of bullies and so many other things that adds additional challenges on kids. Hell, I know how much my parents splitting up affected my schoolwork when I was in my mid teens. What about those that have worse conditions than I had. Is it any wonder many of these kids drop out and realise that the only way they can survive is becoming criminals and joining gangs?

No, not everyone can be saved, but you need to remember that there are still individuals in prison that just wants a chance they were never really given.

Topic Heart Attack Grill - should restaurants like this be allowed?
Posted 30 Apr 2012 06:19

But mostly it's the parents. They should make sure their kids eat healthy, get exercise and play outside.

YES! It seems like parents are unwilling to take on the responsibility of going outside and play with their kids. You don't need to do much, just throw ball with them or something. Teach them how to ride a bike and don't get hysterical when your kid starts climbing trees. That along with "Hun, you can't start training football because we don't have time to drive you there" seems to happen more and more.

It's just as much with the parents having bad habits of not moving around. Kids see it, picks it up and ends up fat and lazy. Monkey see, monkey do. Those who are in their teens today are nicknamed the "Desert-generation", because they want it all served nice and sweet, not willing to work for it. If I could get payed for it I'd go around kicking kids in the ass... and their parents.

Topic Which country would handle better a Zombie invasion?
Posted 30 Apr 2012 06:13

If we had zombies here then they'd be washed away by the heavy rain instantly. And if they dared go out on a Saturday night you'd have drunk people bashing zombie heads together without hesitating. Yes, us Norwegians are a bunch of lunatics.

And Ireland would be safe if you just told them that the zombies were gonna steal all their Guiness. Scots would be fine because they'd find out that a zombie would work well as cabertosstraining for kids. Not even zombies would venture into Wales. They might be living dead, but they're not that stupid.

I'd love to see French zombies though. Imagine 200 000 zombies marching in the streets protesting and on strike because they feel like they're a neglected part of society. cussing

Guinness in cans is really common.. It does not taste like a can.

I mean, I would be extremely impressed if someone could blindly pick out what beers were from a can and which weren't. Like in some taste test where you pour the beer into a glass.

In my experience you can usually taste it on the foam on top. Not as thick when it comes from glass.

Also, DD. I'm just doing this in an attempt to impress you and get you to bed with melove10

True, but having to effectively switch genders places that character in the same anti-feminist boat as the others. That without men (or pretending to be one), our worth is minimal.

Look at it in a different perspective; one of the first females to go undercover in an all man environment and even managed to avoid beheading when discovered. That and writing the answers on your arm before taking a bath isn't the best way to ace your exam happy1

Last Sunday I had Newcastle Brown Ale from a can. It was just wrong tasting. Am I the only one who thinks that ale should be drunk from either a bottle or a pint glass? Lager is fine in cans, but ale from cans is just sacrilegious. Somebody agree with me please, because my friends think I'm slightly mad for thinking this, not that I care, but it's nice when people agree.

It comes in cans? I think if you tried serving that in England they'd throw it after you, so yeah, serving it in cans is ludicrous and should be avoided, same way Guiness in cans should be avoided. Guiness can't be drunk unless it's from tap.

I only really drink Corona, and mainly because I can put a lime in it.

Bud Lime is not bad but doesn't really constitute as beer, does it. haha

I like some of the blonde beers, but again - I'm all about the girly-type beers with lime. Embarassed

I suggest you try german weissbiers. Usually they have a more smooth and fruity taste. They don't have the sort of bitterness that you usually find in English beers and Pils(Czech beer, although Czech beer is fucking awesome too).

Topic The Malignancy of Idealism
Posted 27 Apr 2012 12:03

You have yet to convince me that removing religion and thus paving way for the new philosophy that you feel Jesus taught is not another idealism. Sure, there are things that keeps the spontaneous acts of love from constantly appearing, but the moment you preach and "enlighten" people about it, like you are here and in your book(that you haven't read because I have plenty of other books that I need to read) it becomes YOUR idealism. Unless the barriers that hinders this new spontaneous philosphy are broken by time and people realising it themselves, but it needs to be taught, preached and understood then it becomes an ideal. Your saying "Why don't we do this instead?" In all fairness, this seems like a paradox to me.

There are plenty of religions that aren't monotheistic or even polytheistic(and if you only have a problem with specific religions then say which ones you're talking about). Buddishm doesn't have any god at all. There's it all about insight. Hindu's have many gods with different qualities. The different mythologies have all gods that have flaws. Have a look at Greek Mythology and you'll see there's more drama there than in Days of our Lives. Hardly the perfect infallible deity that you're talking about, is it?
And the belief in the Judeo-Christian God does not automatically mean that you have to fear him. I am a Christian and I do not fear God, because I believe he loves me and don't want me to come to any harm. I don't believe in the image of the vengeful judgemental God that will strike me down. There is no way that my faith makes me feel bad about myself. It's not because it's against the ten commandments that I feel bad when I lie, it's because I lie at all. I have a conscience that dictates my feelings, not my belief. Will I apologise to God because of my sins, of course, but not in any different way than I will apologise to family and friends should I hurt them. If feeling bad is selfishness then I guess I'm as selfish as they come, and to be honest I don't have a problem with it. I'd rather feel bad about the shit I do wrong than be apathic about it. Who knows, maybe I'm just unique and none of the 3 billion people on Earth that believes in a monotheistic God feels the same as I do.

And the celebration of Jesus is partly that he died for our sins, but you exclude the most important part of it all; the ressurection. Just pulling the dying part is like going to church and have the wine but not the bread because it makes your mouth dry. You alter the concept of dying for our sins. And saying that martyrs are nothing special is like spitting on their grave. People willing to die before changing their beliefs is admirable. You might consider it stupid, but would you call it stupid if I took a man with the exact same views as you, put a gun to his head and told him that if he didn't denounce the philosphy I'd kill him, and then shoot him as he refused? Because that's what a martyr is. You get killed because you don't wanna give up your beliefs.

I would have replied more, but it's 9 PM on a Friday and my brain is shutting down. Have a good weekend coffee

So what should we have prisons for? Is it just to lock people up and make sure they're not a threat to society for as long as they are in there? Do we feel safer if a person is locked up for 15 years instead of 5? Has the prison system become a sort of "society's revenge" on the purpotrator where the sole reason is to make him/her suffer? I'm not talking about the mass murderers and those that deserve to be sentenced to life without parole. I'm thinking about those that go to jail for burgerly, drug related crimes, manslaughter and so forth. I saw an article on CNN that 60% of those that were sent to jail in the US gets sent back to jail on a later time. Is this a problem? Should something be done to prevent people from becoming repeat offender and going in and out of the gates as bell boy in a hotel? I'm not saying what's right and wrong, I'm just curious what you guys think dontknow

Do you really believe that that quote is functional to this date? After all things have changed in the last 200 years.

Since this is a pub... Which country do you think produces the best beer? Bonus if you can give brand name for us other beerlovers to try. Maybe give a bit of a description how it tastes like and so forth, just so we can know if it's our kind of beer.

Personally I have to go for Germany and Erdinger Weiss. Wheat beer with a hint of fruityness in it that doesn't just make it fresh, but also rich in taste, a combination that can be difficult to mix without getting bitter.

If your reasoning of "allow people to defend themselves and there will be far fewer victims" how come the gun murder ratio per capita puts US on the top(or at least increadibly high), while countries where there's a much stricter gun control have a much lower ratio?

And maybe Norway isn't shangri-la, but at least there's very very few guncrimes commited each year.

And how many rounds are fitted in a regular hunting rifle compared to an assultrifle? Not to mention reload rate and firerate. If you were Breivik, would you rather head out on a rather small island where shooting people would be not far from fish in a barrel with a hunting rifle or a fully automatic one?
