so, word in these beauty streets is that there is a shade of red lip color for everyone. i so far have had minimal success with finding a red lip gloss - and absolutely none with finding a lipstick. (i'm not even venturing into liquid lipstick territory.) this has ABSOLUTELY rained on my makeup parade because there is something quite alluring about a woman, or man for that matter, who can confidently, and stylishly, pull off a bold red lip and i'd like to join their ranks.

what say you? have you had more success on this particular beauty front? care to share the shades that pep up your kisser? any ideas for those of us still on our quest? any and all posts are GREATLY appreciated!?

Ruby Woo by MAC is a pretty universal shade of red. It's blue-based, and probably the only shade of red that I know would work for anyone.

But to be honest, you could probably make any shade of red work with the right liner. I know when shades of lipstick are too bold for me, I darken them up with a lip liner.

Also, browse Colour Pop's website. Their lipstick formulas are perfect and inexpensive. The lipsticks are liquid, and they dry down to either a matte or satin finish. They have really great glosses as well.

They have a really rich red shade called Rooch that I'm in love with, and it looks even better on my more darker-complected friends.

I rarely wear red (if anyone posts a thread on the best nudes though, I'm there!)... but I came across a really gorgeous red this year, kind of by accident. Sephora added it to my spring sale box for being awesome (ie. spending too much money). But you mentioned wanting a red gloss, so this might be one to consider because I'm really enjoying it, despite being a non-red kind of girl.

It's YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain in 401 Rouge Vinyle. I think it has a balance of cool/warm tones, so it should work well with most skin tones.

The cream part totally moisturizes the lips, the pigment is insanely rich, and the gloss aspect gives it that patent shine. It also lasts forever and when it does fade down to a stain, you can even add a clear gloss or lip oil over it and it still looks great.

Here it is on Cara Delevingne:

It took me a really long time to find a red that I was comfortable with. I like more subtle shades and I do a lot of ombré looks for my lips because they are so full. My red of choice is MAC's Matte DIVA. I sill put a little SATIN in the center of my bottom lip though.
? A True Story ?

Chanel's Rouge Allure range are awesome. They are marketed as 'luminous' but are not overly bright. There are some really subdued hues in the range.. but my favs are #175 Ardente [Fiery] and #172 Rouge Rebelle [Red Rebel]

#175

#172

wow... i TOTALLY forgot about this thread; thanks for tagging me hayley? ladies, thank you for all of your input! shortly after posting this, i went to youtube and looked up videos done by woc (women of color) suggesting different shades of red. this REALLY helped cos it gave a starting point and great visuals.

my yellow undertones and full lips makes this even more of a challenge. i hadn't considered liquid lipsticks. i equated them with gloss and have since discovered how wrong i was! i have yet to find my shade, but the field has opened up greatly. for now i'll stick with old faithful:

thanks again for the advice!❤?

I’m a redhead and finding the correct shade can be very difficult but after at least 25 mistakes I finally found the right one! Now most days you’ll find me wearing it...

NARS - I love it. I love this with smoky eyes if I am out for a glam night.

My absolute swear-by color is Rita Red by Rimmel, I'm not sure if it wasn't limited edition, though... it had to do with Rita Ora. However, it's perfect for really pale blondes like I am.

I've been wanting to try MAC, but I could never decide between Ruby Woo and Russian Red.

I wear lipstick on a very regular basis (nearly every day). I love a good red. I have some cheap-o brands that have done well for me throughout the years. E.LF has done me good so has Revlon and Maybelline. Now that I can afford better makeup N.A.R.S and MAC are a go-to. I prefer a deeper burgundy or wine shade myself (inner vamp) but a nice true red can defs enhance the right look.

Never been much of a fan of red lipstick, although I recently bought a crimson red skirt that I adore
