i don't remember momma she died when i was born, we lived in a one room shanty but daddy tried to make it a home. by the time i was six years old started singing in the streets, people would throw me pennies to help daddy make ends meet. what a wonderful song.

Sad Lisa - Cat Stevens

She hangs her head and cries on my shirt.
She must be hurt very badly.
Tell me what’s making you sadly?
Open your door, don’t hide in the dark.
You’re lost in the dark, you can trust me.
’cause you know that’s how it must be.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

Her eyes like windows, tricklin’ rain
Upon her pain getting deeper.
Though my love wants to relieve her.
She walks alone from wall to wall.
Lost in a hall, she can’t hear me.
Though I know she likes to be near me.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

She sits in a corner by the door.
There must be more I can tell her.
If she really wants me to help her.
I’ll do what I can to show her the way.
And maybe one day I will free her.
Though I know no one can see her.

Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.

she was just sixteen and all alone
when i came to be
but we grew up together
my momma child and me
now things were bad and she was scared
but whenever i would cry
she'd calm my fears and dry my tears
with a rock and roll lullaby

we made it through the lonely days
but lord the nights were long
and we dreamed of better moments
when mama sang her song
now i don't recall the words at all it don't make sense to try
i just knew lots of love came through
in that rock and roll lullaby

rock and roll lullaby by bj thomas

ok you asked for it

today i stumbled from my bed
with thunder crashing in my head
my pillow still wet
from last night tears
and as i think of giving up
a voice inside my coffee cup
kept crying out
and ringing in my ears

don't cry daddy
daddy please don't cry
daddy you still got me and little tommy
together we will find another mommy
daddy daddy please laugh again
daddy ride us on your back again
oh daddy please don't cry

the king, elvis

we were out on a date in my daddy's car
we hadn't traveled very far
there in the road straight ahead
a car was stalled, the engine was dead

i couldn't stop so i swerved to the right
i'll never forget the sounds i heard that night
the screaming tires, the bursting glass
the painful scream i heard last

when i woke up the rain was pouring down
there were people standing all around
something warm running through my eyes
but i found my baby somehow that night

i lifted her head she looked at me and said
hold me darling for a little while

i held her close and kissed her our last kiss
i found the love i knew i had missed
well now she's gone although i hold her tight
i lost my love my life that night

oh where oh where can my baby be
the lord took her away from me
she's gone to heaven so i have to be good
so i can see my baby when i leave this world

last kiss... j frank wilson

did you know i go to sleep and leave the lights on
hoping you'd come by and know
that i'm home and still awake
but two years go by and still my lights on
this is hard for me to say
but this is all that i can say

it's the last song i'll ever write for you
it's the last time i'll tell you just how much i really care

this is the last song i'll ever sing for you
you come looking for the light and it won't be there
but i love you
oh yes i do, yes i do

last song... edward baer

Taps - Every time I hear it I'm 9 YO again saying bye to my dad.

Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Having worked for years as a Development and PR Officer for a shelter for abused womena and children, these two songs bring me to tears and haunt me whenever I hear them. The horrors that exist in our own backyards are nothing short of shocking and disheartening.

Father & Son - Cat Stevens

Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can I try to explain, cause when I do it turns away again.
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
if you want, you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.

Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them they know not me.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
