How can you not love a guy who totally nails how biased and awful Fox News is?
Is he Anthony Bourdain's brother? They are cut from the same cloth in many ways.

we actually get our news from the Daily show. if you look past the funny (and omg, he's hilarious) it's really good up to date, unbiased, if satiric, coverage of real stories, some that don't even make it to the big news networks. it's pretty much a daily requirement at casa de sprite. I love Jon Stewart and the Daily Show. He is hillarious and really does give up to date news with his own comical spin. But I wouldnt call him totally unbiased, LOL!! I like the Colbert Report too!

I love the tongue in cheek satire of The Colbert Report and the blatant out there satire that is The Daily Show. But unfortunately there is no such thing as unbiased news. The nature of human beings is to put their opinions into everything. (See even the educational threads on BDSM on Lush). But that is just human nature.
The thing that I think is the most important is that everyone listen to all the "noise" around them. And I use "noise" not in a negative way but as a way to generalize all spoken word from television, radio, satellite (a word I never spell right darn it) and internet and then using their education, own opinions and emotions and feelings make a choice.
That is what makes human's great. We can do just that.
Thanks Sprite for a great question. Sorry I went a little off topic but it was something for some reason that just sort of flowed out of me.

I like the show. I rarely watch it, for whatever reason, but the few times I've caught it I always have laughed. He's not unbiased, let's be real here LOL. He's much harder on the Republicans, but many would say that's deserved.

It's a shame they aren't active in real politics, good things might get accomplished lol.

In the elections he is the only one that actually does an interview and asks hard questions. Part of that is because the politicians can shop round for interviewers and only choose the ones that ask softball questions. Part of that is because the interviewers who pretend to ask hard questions are actually playing gotcha with stupid questions Jon Stewart is the most trusted name in US news. And he deserves it.

Someone compiles all news items and decides what we will have access to and always from one viewpoint or another. Consequently and also through experience of lying charlatans such as politicians I have a deep distrust of most media presented items. I also have an inconvenient long memory and this helps to consolidate my attitude. I wouldn't be surprised if this paragon of unbiased presentation and virtue didn't have some nasty skeleton clanking around in the closet. I feel there is a possible degree of hypocrisy when devotees of a site dedicated to sex points fingers at celebrity indulgences.

I love that show.
As I do not have (nor have I ever had) cable, I was unaware of both John Stewart and Steven Colbert for many years. I think I began watching them on Hulu a few years ago and I must say that I am much more politically informed than I otherwise would be. A sad fact if I may say so.
The majority of topics covered and poked fun of by both shows rarely if ever make it onto usual local or national news shows, and when they are they are rarely reported on so thoroughly. It helps that, as comedians, they bring entertainment into the political reporting realm, keeping the interests of many that otherwise wouldn't watch.
I wonder what it was like in the old news days when I never would have learned what a Kardashian is, or that the Jersey Shore was nothing more than the New Jersey shoreline. And I wonder how it is that these things became "news worthy."

Sprite, I think Jack_42 is trying to say that John Stewart is just as bad as any other media news source. I have to respectfully disagree with that sentiment because John Stewart is a satirist and a comedian. He is not really a journalist or is The Daily Show really news. If he is biased we should remember that it is comedy not news. It is sad when you do get better news from satire than the real media outlets but then at the heart of every great comedy is a tragedy.

I have no problem with politicians having an affair or six on the side. They should have given Bill an incentive plan, a nubile virgin to deflower for each month the deficit is cut by x% or is eliminated. What does infuriate is when the party that has claimed the position of national arbiter of moral standards turns out to be filled with adulterers, homosexuals and whoremongers. I have no problem at all with any of those in itself, it is when they are coupled with hypocrisy and vicious nasty attacks on people who dare to do in public what they are up to in private that they become an outrage. Newt Gingrich impeached a President for adultery while he was doing the same. The GOP has been pandering to the religious right for decades now. They have tried to eliminate the right to have a abortion and some of them have been trying to outlaw contraception. They have made their sexual activities fair game.

I concluded that this was about a news type programme presenter or current events if you like and was expressing my distrust of such things as never being objective. The fact that the presenter's personality can be charismatic gives me even more food for thought or if you like distrust it's all show biz.
