The best thing I can say is it's not a bad idea to vary your terms. That being said, I would think that the best way to go about writing your stories is to use terminology that doesn't distract from your story.

Seeing the title of this thread, and then the fact that it was started in July 2010, made me laugh.

I try to use a variety of terms, but by default, for me, it's "cock."

Definitely "Cock." A lot more sexual than dick.

I prefer the term cock much more to dick. Whether reading a story or in actuality having someone tell me they want my cock it turns me on so much more then to hear them say they want my dick. http://www.lushstories.com/stories/oral-sex/a-night-to-remember.aspx

I don't think it really matters. Cock, dick, penis, everyone knows what you mean. I think it's good to change up your terminology if you say it a lot so you aren't repeating the same word constantly.
You seem sweet, mind if I lick you to make sure?

In the middle ages, writers to get past Catholic censors called it a "nose" and I like that. A big nose, a nose "sneezing," sticking a nose where it doesn't belong, Pinocchio's nose growing when he lied, you can have a lot of fun with this image. Just like writers did hundreds of years ago. In the play by that name, Cyrano de Bergerac had a "nose" that was "so big it entered a room 15 minutes before he did." Princes would boast of having a "nose" worthy of their royal status, etc.

It's fiction, so cock or dick is preferred, whereas in real life you often find a cock is attached to a dick. Funny that.

I think dick can be used, but only in certain situations. Like if the story was humorous, then you could use dick as, maybe, a pun because dick puns are funny, in my opinion. Yes, I'm immature, so shoot me!

COCK. Dick doesn't evoke(?) a sexual response

It all depends on what day it is. Cock is acceptable after 6PM; after 6, you can call Aunt Ethyl a Dick. Unless she is an asshole.

I knew a lady who would call a guy "Richard" even though it wasn't his name. When we asked her why, she said, "Richard is long for 'Dick.'" Dick is more of an insult "You dick!" Cock is more of the organ used to fuck a pussy. But, if an author uses dick instead of cock, I don't mind. I mean... it's their story not mine.

Good question.
Context is everything here.
For me, personally, dick feels slightly more aggressive. Maybe I'll deploy it if there is something happening in the background that is pulling focus from it just being purely sexual, or perhaps if there is less familiarity between the characters. Cock feels right for describing something goddamn intimate.
But, it just depends on a whole bunch of stuff.
Write erotica when you're horny, then edit it when you're calm.
Ah, what the fuck do I know!

wolphman007 wrote:Hello, When reading an erotic story, which would you rather see used as a word for Penis? Dick or Cock? Would you rather read "as i slid my cock in" or "as i slid my dick in"? I'm just never sure which word to use when I write my stories . Thanks!
Thanks for all the replys eveyone! This does help out alot. Have a great weekend everyone! Eh - I'm new. . . I figure it wouldn't hurt to reply and repeat what others have probably said. Cock. Several reasons - for one, it sounds harsh and sharp, phonetically speaking. Dick is a softer sound, more mellow. Cock is also more mature - you don't ever hear kids and teens calling their penis a cock. That comes at some point towards puberty when the harshness of it matches with fuck and cunt. Now - for most stories this would apply. For some it would make more sense if the character themselves would be adverse to saying cock...have to keep it within character.

Just to let all the fishermen out there that "The Fuck Ettiquette" manual states that it's proper to use dick before 6pm and cock other.

Definitely Cock - gets my juices flowing. There's something erotic and filthy about that word. The word "dick" is so.... highschool and I agree with a previous poster, it doesn't evoke a sexual response.

A "cock" is a rooster. A "dick" is the former Vice President of the United States.

By the way ... just read an article that referenced an American survey, suggesting that the majority of women preferred the word "cock" over "dick" when it came to use in a relationship setting (such as dirty talk during sex).

Dick is you know quite a literal & descriptive thing so you'd probably be better of using that in a romantic kinda story .
Cock on the other hand more...outrageous it's about really getting stuck in and driving it home. It's passionate. That's more like animal fever kind of thing. Spur of the moment.
Does that make any sense?
