For example, falling into blackness and things like that.
My reoccurring dreams are a pair of headlights coming at me and getting closer and closer until I have to sit up confused1

drowning plays a big part in my dreams, although the meaning is not cryptic.

I have a very specific dream. I am climbing a snowy set of stairs to a brownstone house(although oddly, they are not connected) When I finally get to the top I slip and fall. At this point I jerk awake.

I now live in Florida. No snow for me anymore!

I used to have a couple of books on dream reading.

There are some great web sites which give you an idea of possible meanings / reasons behind the dreams.

Falling is very common: http://www.dreammoods.com/cgibin/fallingdreams.pl?method=eeamid&search=fallingintro

Water usually represents your emotions in dreams.

I'll keep my dreams between me and my team of psychologists...

Yes and I cry like a big old baby and can't sleep again for a day or two.... I had a dream when my brothers deployed they died and we didn't hear from either one of them for a few weeks... I was a totally crying baby until we heard from them. Not to mention they are reoccurring .....

Drowning
To dream that you are drowning indicates that you are feeling overwhelmed by emotions. Repressed issues may be coming back to haunt you. You may be proceeding too quickly in trying to discover your subconscious thoughts. You should proceed more cautiously and slowly. If you drown to death, then is refers to an emotional rebirth. If your survive the drowning, then it means that a waking relationship or situation will ultimately survive the turmoil.

now there's a surprise *rolls eyes* Nic? can a borrow a couple of your shrinks please?

I had a recurring dream where the scenario changed but the theme stayed the same. I was looking for something that I could never find and kept going around in circles. I think this happened when I was experiencing a dissatisfaction with my life and wished to change it. When I met a new friend in the Czech Republic and decided to leave my horrible boring job at a call centre for T-mobile, leave the UK take up a new career in Prague I had one last dream where I found whatever was the object of the search and the dream stopped.

My reoccurring dream is never exactly the same, but like Jack it always follows the same theme. I am always running away from something that is chasing me. I never know what it is, but spend the entire dream, running the streets, jumping over fences and climbing walls, and trying to hide from whatever is trying to get me.

I don't think it takes a website to explain that one. As I only have the dream when I am feeling a little lost, and uncertain about life.

I know a lot of people think that dreams are just random, but it's always been my experience that it is my subconscious trying to tell me something, or something that I already know deep down, but am trying to hide from.

My erotic (as in wet) dreams about sex with men used to freak me out, esp. since "gay" and "fairy" were used as taunts when I was being bullied in high school. Now I've accepted that those dreams were likely just my subconscious' subtle way of suggesting that perhaps I'm not as straight as I thought I was. Likely bisexual to some degree since women are still my primary sexual interest but I'm open to, and even wanting, sexual relations with my own sex.

I am known to dream random conversations with people all the time, both ones I know and don't. Then have them happen months later. It used to freak me out, but I'm used to it now. And no I can't change the words that come out of my mouth no matter how hard I try. I more see them as my barometer of knowing my life is on the track out is meant to be, for better or worse.

The really freaky thing is I had a reoccurring one where I saw my own death in a very specific place and circumstance a number of years ago. Then went camping/hiking through that exact spot. Didn't die that day, but boy did it freak me out.
