There's so many great ones (that are on my list) named already so I'll throw out Dennis and Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, Keith Moon of the Who, and Andy Gibb. And please don't laugh but I have to mention Karen Carpenter, too.

Cobain can stay dead. I would bring back Dimebag Darrell.

Didn't even think of him when I answered but he's definitely another one that I'd love to see back. One of those guys who could make a guitar sing.

My last name IRL is "Vaughan" and when I was in Houston a couple years ago, an airport security guy (one of the rare friendly ones) asked if there was a connection. Alas, my answer was "No, but I'm a fan."

Two others that I thought of after my post were Robin and Maurice Gibb. Would love to see the Bee Gees back together.

One Direction

...so I didn't get into trouble after I'd killed them all slowly and painfully. They are talentless puppets, the imperfect personification of everything that is wrong with popular culture. Passable singers, yet they don't dance, play, write... nor do they have anything to say except, 'Look how pretty I am'.

I don't blame them for making a buck, but nor can you blame me for ridding the world of this paradigm of mass-media-mediocrity.

Alternative answer

Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Mingus... Ella... and George Formby.

Nobody who ended their spoilt attention-seeking ego-exploding lives with the sordid self-indulgence of alcohol or drugs. Let the silly fuckers rot. I would not waste my wish on Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin et al, no matter how good they were (or have become in their absence).

Oh, except Charlie Parker, because he transcended everything.

Well, if we're talking jazz here, then we can't forget John Coltrane.

John Bonham: So Led Zeppelin could do a proper reunion (no disrespect to son Jason Bonham).

Jon Lord: So, if Ritchie Blackmore ever got his head out of his ass, Deep Purple could do a proper, "one last time", reunion.

Of course, Freddie Mercury.

Let's not forget Mozart (died aged 35), and Schubert (31). Schubert especially was only just getting going before dying of syphilis (apparently).

I'm with shawnababy on this. I'd have said a live Who Reunion, but Roger still can't hit the notes. But really, the list is so long. Benny Goodman's Big Band (from the 1938 Carnegie Hall concert) Buddy Rich. The Band. Joe Strummer. Warren Zevon.

Sorry, I know it said one. I follow directions so poorly
