how safe is our privacy here on lush? specifically, if someone set out to find my real name and location, could they do it, or is my privacy and identity truly protected and safe here on this site? cindy

Hi Cindy,

Simply, Lush (like any other social website) is only as safe as you make it.

Do you list that information on your profile?
Have you told anyone that information here on Lush?

If not, then I don't see how anyone could find out. As long as you use appropriate caution with the information you decide to divulge on the site then you're fine.

If you are that concerned about your privacy on the site, three simple rules should provide all the security you require:

- Don't give out your real name and/or surname.
- Don't tell anyone where you live or where you work.
- Don't upload photos of yourself.

Hope that answers your question :)

Liz

thank you. that is what I thought, but someone I was chatting on this site made some statements that concerned me. They indicated that we should move our 'chat' to yahoo so we would be more secure. I declined, but the comments they made concerned me that someone could 'stalk me' through Lush if they chose.

thanks again for the assurance. cindy

I think the person in question was just trying to lure you to Yahoo for their own personal benefits. Like Liz said, Lush is as safe as you make it. Don't put your personal information out there, and it won't be found out. I didn't even use my real full name when I made my account. And I pretty much used a throw away e-mail that doesn't convey any personal info about me.

So just be careful. Any personal information that you put out can be traced back to you even by the most non-savvy users. Not trying to make you paranoid, but it's important to exercise caution. Lush does go above and beyond, I think, to protect users' images. They can't be right clicked or anything. But as I said, people still find ways.

For example, Liz posted one nude photo of herself...and as a result, I linked it to a site full of her nudie bits. I'm currently blackmailing her for a fresh batch of cookies every week. But really, she brought it all on herself. drunken

I think I've changed my mind. I think I want two batches. Two different batches. Don't disappoint me. evil4

Liz, the cookies look delicious, but I'd rather have the picture! (Just kidding). Thanks to all.

Big brother is definitely watching. If you can be pinpointed directly where you are with a GPS system then yes someone here could find out the real truth about you. How safe is the internet really? We are always constantly being monitored whether we like it or not. There is no reall privacy anymore.

As Liz stated above:

Don't give out your real name where you live or work and don't put real pictures of yourself on here.

I once found a dating site where i posted some very personal information on and a couple of days later one of my co-workers asked me why I chose that site? I will never show my face on here. I don't want to scare anyone. LOL!!!!!!!!

That's a common ploy of spammers, here and tons of other sites on the net...Lush is no different in that respect...I got two requests like that this week alone over on Facebook...and I've seen it on poetry sites even...

Like Liz says...it's only as safe as you make it...my own rule is, don't post anything anywhere on the internet you wouldn't want everyone to know about...simple as that...
