I have noticed when cutting and pasting from MS word the formatting changes. Quotations and paragraph spacing seems to be all blended into general text

I know it has been discussed before but why would one vote a 1 on a post story? Most of us are amateurs writers not polished Why would one be so disrespectfull?

It does take time and effort to write a story edit it and post it. If I did not like a story I would not grade it less than 3 or no grading at all

I, too, will not vote if I don't like the story much. It makes me feel bad. But you just need to remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is what the voting is there for. It's not really disrespectful, it's feed back. What matters most is what you think of the story. When you post a story you just gotta realize that you can't please everyone all the time. When I post my stories I just sit back and expect the worst sometimes and sometimes people surprise me. Everyone gets a lousy vote now and then....And sometimes they get lousy or sometimes nasty comments, too. Take a look sometime. You will see....

It's not meant as disrespect. On the one hand a 1 vote can knock down the ave. of the over all amount. On the other it can be sent as a signal. You may think you edited it and so forth but, if you don't have a grasp of the English language and post something that is neither proof read or spell checked, people will hit you with a low vote.

Hi Pam111,

MS Word is probably the worst text editor I've ever used, it doesn't even work well when using it standalone. We use the equivalent of notepad in our story submit area, which has the most likelihood of cross platform compatibility. My suggestion is copy your story from MS Word into notepad or wordpad first, clean it up formatting wise, and then submit here.

Voting - it's a useful guide, but I'd take it as a guide only. With any system which is open to the public, you will always have some people who dislike your story and give it a low vote, or just take a dislike to an author and give them a 1 regardless, without even reading the story. I check most stories, especially those with lots of 1 votes, to see if it is deserved.

One more thing on the 1 votes, some surfers just take a dislike to a particular genre, like incest stories, stupidly read the story clearly titled and submitted to that category, and then vote it down. Your mother and daughter story probably falls in that category. I'd take those votes with a pinch of salt.

I hope that helps.

Lush

Thanks for the advice. I will convert my MS word to text editor. Maybe it is MS word for Mac, that is the issue.
I must say I enjoy being part of the forum. My writing skills have eroded since college. I usually write opinions on legalese,
which is then edited by me and my secretary. It's bland repetitive writing, opinions on case law. After a while, it is like a form letter.

When I did cut and paste it looked right in preview, till I hit the submit button then all formating blended together

It's hard to get the formatting right programatically. There are so many different applications out there, and although it might look right even in our submission area, it seems to carry a load of invisible formatting issues with it.

You can always edit your story once submitted, click on "My Stories" at the top of the main page once logged in, and go from there.

I can imagine how repetitive it must be, writing about case law! This must be a great outlet for your creative side Pam coffee

Word S**Ks big time yet it's the most common program. I write in word because of spell check. Could never spell worth a dam. I save the file in Rich Text format, that stripes away a lot of the Microsoft garbage. Then I post it and I preview it for a final edit. I still make mistakes, especially when I rush but I find this the easiest way.

For whats its worth I write for the creative outlet but I also write to stimulate (in more ways then one) and even provoke. A low score on something I wrote to be provocative is to me a good sign. We all have difference views.

My last story was written in .txt, but the darn site still threw the sentences all over. Lush fixed it for me, thankfully.
