The best thing you can do for your fellow, next to rousing his conscience, is - not to give him things to think about, but to wake things up that are in him... to make him think things for himself - George MacDonald

Several years ago I was walking around Barnes and Noble and walked past a table that had this book on it, needless to say I HAD to stop and go back and pick it up.

Great topic here, and some awesome old books :). I will treasure this one forever. I thought it was the greatest thing back then and still do. Two of my favorite stories in one!! My mom gave it to me when I was about 9 or 10. I still have it, my copy is in a bit worse shape with more wear on the edges and spine, but all the pages are still there. My kids think it's great that mom has such an ancient book from her childhood still, LOL. The Berenstain Bears are awesome books too.

This is as close as I could find to the book cover I could remember. Mine was leather, old. I remember it, as my mother was taking a night school course for upgrading her nursing thingamabop, and she would sit at the kitchen table and read through this massive book. The cover of it was a deep green, and simple. I would sit at the table with her and read my book. Living life and enjoying life are two different things... just need to figure out how to do both at the same time to live it right! Woman... GO FLY A KITE!!!!! Take a slideshow walk with me on a walk through the parks of Inner Mongolia, China. Then enjoy the tale of a very traditional day in the life of a white Woman in China.

I remember my dad reading stories from this book to me as a kid. I would get so scared before he even started ... and couldn't wait to hear what was in store. Note: I was given these books a few years ago, and they are REALLY OLD (First Edition) ... Mine are a Two Book Set with a Case Cover, in a different color as shown

And the funny thing about this one, since it's a physically large, hard cover book...I used to use it sort of as a writing desk while lying in bed, or on the sofa...for years later...
Heck, probably still when I was in high school...
