A friend; definition:
–noun
1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter: friends of the Boston Symphony.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile: Who goes there? Friend or foe?
4. a member of the same nation, party, etc.

Some that crossed my mind! Why would I add someone as a friend and then NEVER chat or communicate with them again? If am on ones friend list and they called, poked and chatted and I ignored them, am I really a FRIEND of theirs?

Thanks Friends!

I can see your point, I've been known to add girls as friends for no other reason than that they regularly post hot pictures in their profile...

At first I was thinking that maybe that would somehow not fit your definition of friend here, but on further consideration, I think it fits your definition quite nicely...

Let's see...it certainly fits Number 1...some of their pictures certainly create "feeling of affection or personal regard"...as well as a few other feelings...
It fits Number 2...some of those pictures have been known to "give assistance"...though I won't go into details there...
It fits with Number 3...none of those girls look very hostile to me...
And finally, it fits Number 4...we are all Lush members...

So...all my Lush friends fit the definition quite nicely, thank you...I feel better already...icon_smile

oh i think for the most part online friends are not very often in the number 1 category...but for sure some of them are.
mostly they are what i would call "friends for the road"...people you share some time with and enjoy but dont really connect enough for them stick around for the long haul.
it can suck though when you mistakenly put them in the the number 1 slot just to find out that nope, they dont belong there at all. i hate that.

Friend is simply the word that this site, and facebook, and many others use, and nothing more. It's a meaningless word if you try to take it literally. Hell, real friends arent even 'friends' depending on how you define it. You get added because somebody thinks you're attractive, or might want to cyber, or hopefully has nude pics, so you ask to be added in order to find out. Does it mean those people that want to be your friend actually care about you? Of f---ing course not.

Some actually put on their profile "don't add me unless we have talked" or "don't add me, then never chat with me". Fair enough, some people really try to make the term "friend" mean something. I think lots of us are, actually; it's just that I'm limiting that search to those I actually care about (a few of which I've met here), not just those who send me a PM asking to be known as "friend".

Thanks Nicola...btw, I work hard at it...in case you haven't noticed...

I think there are a lot of reasons to add someone as a "friend"...
I've added people for no other reason than I enjoy their forum posts...adding them makes it a lot easier to keep track of their activity than visiting ten peoples profile page every time I visit here...
Do I chat with them on a regular basis? For the most part...no...
I've also added authors whose stories I enjoy, in case I miss their stories on the front page...and yes, members whose pics I enjoy...

When I first joined Lush in 2009, I basically limited my friends to people I communicated with on a regular basis...some of those "friends" I chatted with in '09 have not even logged on in the past year...
Should I take them off my list? I can't see a reason...
If I reduced my friends list to only people I communicate with on a regular basis, I'd have to give back my "Socialite" badge...
And I wouldn't want to do that...

As far as the Facebook thing...I've only been on since September, and I haven't had anyone add me that I really don't like, though I did get a request from someone in my high school who I only know by name and can't recall actually talking to...
I think he is just trying to set a record for number of friends...is there anything wrong with that? I think not...
Though, it does remind me of a South Park episode...

hmm... an honest answer? i never turn down friend requests here. several reasons - one, it might hurt someone's feelings. two, i might have missed a chance to meet someone really awesome. three, well, i am on a quest to be queen of lush! thing is, i have said yes to requests where i've never talked to the person again and aren't even sure they are on my list. i've said yes to people who i haven't talked to for months afterwards and then, i suddenly find something in common with them and end up getting quite chatty. i have friends i consider casual aquaintences and ones i talk to every day and some i have grown as close to, or closer then, people in my off line life.

heh - honestly, i get 2-3 a day as it is, no worries - like i said, here and there the ones i get stick and i've got someone new and very cool in my life - a few of my random requests have become quite good friends here. besides, if nothing else, i need to keep working on my 'pictures of cocks' collection, and random requests are the way to go for that as well!

laughing9 One of the main reasons I sometimes refuse friend requests, honestly when I check out their profiles is like being slapped in the face, some of the pics are disgraceful. Rach, if you like, I'll recommend them to you for your collection. laughing8

You know what makes me laugh... Is that sometimes I'll think of rejecting a friend request, but then I see your name already on his list, and think 'Oh, well if he's already friends with Sprite, then he must be ok then.' d'oh!

*giggles* funny, but i think some of the others here do the opposite - if they see someone on my list they DON'T friend them :D

She's very sneaky that way...laughing6

'Friends' is the wrong name for what we lushies are.

afterall this is a sex site and it's fun to talk to people on here in the forums and chat rooms because we all share a common interest (sex) and look at peoples profiles and alter egos BUT most of us are using fake names and pictures... we don't know anything about eachother, or care to find out??

My actual friends know what I look like, what makes me laugh and what makes me cry... you guys?

A source of entertainment and comfort when I need somewhere to hide, but friends? No.
If you want to be an actual friend- ask the questions.

(of course there are exceptions to the rule)

I'll add anyone that i've talked to, and that i find them to be of interest... ex; chats, forums, common interest, pictures, music, and etc... However I also update my list on the regular, a fake account, or they do or say rude things, or that i just fall out of contact with them.

*However, I'm still working on one person that won't add me, even after several friend request, and some friendly massages... Makes me wonder or why she won't give me a reason... lol oh well can't win them all! I guess i'm just creepy! lol But still sad...lol!

I used to add anyone. Now I add anyone, then see if they actually write and have more than some fake internet pics of other women, or their body parts on it. Writing and real body parts turn on, no writing and pics = add, discovery, then deletion.

I've found that internet "friends" are tenuous things at best. I've met some really wonderful people on here - people that I'd love to meet in real life, people that I'd love to know for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, it always seems as if internet "friends" are just temporary acquaintances. Here today, gone tomorrow. Sometimes, if I feel like I've grown especially close to someone, I get sad when the "friendship" passes on. That's what makes me always yearn to make the best of every moment I have with every "internet friend" I have. I know that they'll soon be gone.

My lush friends crack me up all the time. I feel like I know some of them well enough to call them friends. Lush friends.
