"THE WHO" -- Greatest live band ever. You always knew when the concert was over, they smashed their intruments and left.
Keith Moon - what a drummer! Probably the best.
Peter Townsend - guitarist extraordinaire .. and who could write lyrics like him? check out 'Mobile' and 'Behind Blue Eyes' on Who's Next
Roger Daltrey - no one had a better voice
John Entwistle - he played LEAD bass so Townsend could go off on his magical riffs. simply the best.

For me, it has to be Oasis, especially their early years.

So let me claim The Doors. I find that their aesthetic still influences my art, my writing and indeed my life to this very day. Going through this thread, I found some good bands, but I know my choice..and than I saw a poster!! I get all emotional when learn that The Doors still have impact on people lifes as they have on mine. Did you know that I got acrosss new generation 1984-88 and more than half of the yung people I met, they didn't know about The Doors? It is like they wouldn't know who their grandmother/father is, you don't have to like grandparents, or listen to them, but for sure you need to know your roots. So disapointing moment. And they have in high scool music class, they should theach them about music. It is not an issue liking or disliking The Doors, but they at least have to know about them. My oppinion anyway.

Iron Maiden. No contest... One of the biggest heavy metal bands world wide, and they've been doing it for 30+ years, and are still doing it! I saw them live just last year - they've still got it. I mean, really still got it. Now, the music video of my favorite song by them has had embedding disabled... *Cries* Here's a link to it - Wasted Years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwB9zg7Tbx8Here's a sampling of another really good song though.

An almost impossible question to answer as it depends on my mood as to which band or solo artist I feel like listening to or is my favourite at the time... I love listening to Massive Attack, John Legend, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, Lighthouse Family, Leftfield, Mean Mr. Mustard, Paolo Nutini, Sade, Soul II Soul, Stereo MC and Habib Koite and Bamanda.
