Probably the most subjective question ever asked! Nice thread to start. I have had different answers for this question at different times of my life. The meaning of life is: To create new life. To make ourselves feel as good and as comfortable as possible. To create something that people will remember so the blip we leave behind will be as big as possible. To suffer. To love someone so hard that you want to live forever with them. To be a hero. To be the best at what you do. Sometimes I feel like life doesn't mean shit. that we are just here because the stars aligned just right and or however you want to describe it and life was just created. But there is no meaning to it. Other times I think... Shit I'm here, I love that girl over there and she is the meaning of my life... Or like my family is the meaning... Or if I had children.

Meanings are just labels we give to thing to tell them from one another. Life itself doesn't need a meaning, it only progresses in the only way it can. So, yeah, finding a meaning to it is, at most, impeding on its progress, if anything. So, I suppose life is meant to be lived, not questioned, if that makes sense. And by saying that, I've officially made myself a hypocrite.

The meaning of life is simple and Bob Dylan said it best: "It's just life and life only", Just for us to live with the defining moments we might find or might find us where we stand. And there really is no meaning just live it because from the moment we are born we begin to die, so why sit and look at all and try to find meaning to something that can't be easily explained. It would chew up what time we have here just to try and find the meaning of it, and in a lot of cases life is nasty brutish and short so why not just live it and not try to explain it and as Dylan said It's just life and life only

Life...it is a journey without meaning or purpose beyond what you make it. Will you be generous, selfish...will you fight for yourself or others?.
Life is a book, the greatest story never written! each page a new day, each chapter a new stage of the journey. There is no spoilers, there is no flipping ahead. We can only read to turn the page to find what happens next. Will your story be a short tragedy? an epic tale to be sung by the finest bards? be it Fate or Destiny that designs how many pages, how many chapters...how many books you'll live. We each will one day read the last page, we each will close the cover and reflect on how horrid, how magnificent, humorous, heroic....and so on that life was...we choose the path...we hold the pen...we write our stories...
where will yours take you?

Life is an absurdity it is a mystery, you need not search for meaning, you have just to live it, enjoy it ! Life should not be taken as a problem, once you start that way you are lost, once you think life is a problem it can never be solved, Life has no goal, if you have a goal you are against life, Life moves not like a business, it moves like poetry, life moves not from the head, it moves from the heart, it is a romance :)

One could argue that the meaning of life is all about continuing the species (eg Human Beings) This perhaps makes some sense. So one could say that the meaning of life is to find Meaning in your life.
Every post here has mentioned ways to gain that meaning in our lives. Which to my mind equates to having a philosophy of life which is consistent with our values. We/you achieve this by having reasons to get out of bed in the morning, often "everyday" things such as , an elderly relative who relies on you, children, friends and family. Work colleagues, the after work activities we do such as coaching the under 7's ...in whatever that may be. so aon and so forth.
Combining many of the comments here so far would be a good way to gaining meaning.

Without the pursuit of a better hereafter the only meaning of life is survival and enhancing one's own survival to the bitter end. If there is a hereafter then that changes drastically.
