This thought popped into my head after having a discussion with my boyfriend.
We were at a wedding and while in his drunken state he gripped my hand and said
"Ever since I gave you a story idea, you didn't write it and now days you don't show me any of your writing to me any more."
One: His plot for his story is way to complicated for me, plus it really isn't my thing. Two: I don't show my writing because the one time I did show him a story I put so much time and effort into, including research etc etc.
He read it, shook his head and said there was little discription in the scenes. When there was plenty of detail to paint the scene in ones imagination.
I knew my story was good and from the comments that were posted by readers they enjoyed it to and want me to continue. However from his negative comment I just stopped writing it all together.
Now days I write for my own pleasure and I love sharing it with people that actually understand or enjoy my work.
So yes, do you share your work with your other half?

Daria - I don't think that's how you spell "uvula."
Axl - That's not "uvula."

I started writing back in January of this year. Before I could tell my SO, he passed away in March.

To Adele: My condolences on your loss.
To Sirene_Jaune: I write for and with my lover (Eternal_Lover) We usually start with teasing messages, phone calls, emails, real life events and from there we create our stories.
With the start of each new day I find myself thinking of you. In the middle of my busy day my mind wanders and I think of you. Out of nowhere I see your smile, hear your laugh and I think of you. Life is beautiful now because I fall in love all over again each time I think of you.

Can't think of anything that we don't share. Last night I was looking for my undies and found them around her ass :D. Yes we do share our writings as we write them.
To LE : Don't need to get my undies back, I am wearing yours now. Mwah love you.

I often send writings, both erotic and more mundane stories, to both of my ex-wives. We are still friends. They give me good feedback and constructive criticism. I don't currently have a Partner, but if I did, I would certainly share my writings with her, prior to publication anywhere. I would hope that she would do the same. It seems to me that is part and parcel of being in a partnership; sharing one's thoughts.

My Hub and I have read several Lush stories together. He knows I've written the odd story here and there, but we've never read one of 'Swollen's stories' together. In a way, I think he quite likes the air of mystery surrounding the little that I have told him. He does, however, know the outline plan of my next tale, as he features in it with me.

I would love to be able share my intimate thoughts with my wife. Unfortunately, she is one of those closed souls who thinks that anything outside of standard "missionary" is perverted and wants nothing to do with it. I have shown her some of my love poetry, but it was directed to her... written for her eyes only.
I'm envious of all who have partners that are close enough, open enough, to share their most private thoughts with each other. May you never take it for granted.

When I was with my ex, he read my stories, and was the first person I went to for feedback. It had been his idea for me to join Lush in the first place, so there was never any reason to hide anything from him.

So yes, do you share your work with your other half? Yes, I've shared my work with my girlfriend...but, only after I'd written it and published it...and she did make some interesting points, mostly about the stories I had originally posted under Exakta66, which were for the most part done as a series...so, I always had to break up with the girl in one story to move on to the next scenario...she seemed to be bothered by the fact that none of my stories had "happy endings" so to speak... I think I'd be reluctant to show anyone my stories prior to publication, though there is something to be said for that from an editing standpoint, but the point you made about the negative comments sort of reminds me why I've never shown anyone anything before I've posted it... You have to remember...regardless of whether they are your significant other or not, it is still one person's opinion...and though you may highly value their opinion in other matters, they may or may not be that familiar with writing, or expectations of sites like this, or what you were trying to convey... And I would never let one person's opinion stop me from writing...regardless of who it is...

Didn't realise at first this topic about "showing ones partner their work" revolved round showing newly written stories - only ever written one for lush ... and why do Lushies take story writing so seriously? Chances of writing stories ever making a person rich and famous are so remote - and certainly erotic stories will never make the top ten of novels. The D.H. Lawrence days are long gone.
However I do like to "show my partner my work". When I suck his lovely big cock to completion the resultant milky white sperm on my tongue is shown to him for his approval - he never complains which tells me I've done my work to our mutual satisfaction.
Or am I just too pre-possessed with sex.

Why do we take our writing so seriously? I can't speak for everyone of course, but for me, what I write is part of who I am. To pen the personal thoughts that float around my mind takes them from being very private to a place open for debate and ridicule. They're not just fun stories, they're part of who I am.

we share every part of the story from sharing the experience.. to writing the first draft the to final story.. and we read it to each other before anyone else sees it.

Well... complicated situation over here I suppose. He and I found this site together, read a bunch of the stories, and would get in the mood and..... But now I'm writing on here. He's unaware that I've made a profile. I'm sure one day he'll stumble upon one of my stories and everything will sound all too familiar since I write about our actual sex life. haha Woops! Sorry babe :)

He showed me his, and I showed him mine. I didn't have any posted stories when he showed me his. I show him all my stuff, stories that I write for Lush, and things I write for other sites. I even showed him my poems, even the ones that are so intensely personal that I wouldn't show them to anyone else.

I don't show my wife my 'in progress' stories, and she doesn't show me her 'part finished' paintings.

I have a lady friend I see but no I haven't. In the past I have twice had the other half (wife) and I must have shown them the money that came from my hard work and they took it in the divorce.
