Would it be possible to stop people from sending requests (friend requests and chat requests) from anywhere other than your profile? It could be something that people could choose to opt in or out of. It might encourage some to read profiles before sending random requests - well, we can always hope, lol.

Kind of like FaceBook, so the person who posted could see who liked what they wrote...... I think it might encourage interaction between members........

I do so second the motion (if someone else didn't already) I would have "liked" this suggestion.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but it would be great if there was a way to mark which stories you've already read.

The Random Story button should be working again.

gav wrote:The Random Story button should be working again. It works to some extent. If you're on the front of the site, and press the button, a story say in the lesbian category is pulled up. Every subsequent press of the random button brings up a lesbian story only, no other categories. Is that deliberate? I thought if you pressed a random story button, you'd get any story out of our 10K or so, regardless of category. Or is this the only way to do it, so that if you want a random lesbian story only, having just read one and being in that category area, it will pull up those from that category only? If that's the case, you have to always go back to the home page first, and then press random again. I think I have it!

That's the way it used to work. There always was a high chance the story it picks would be a incest story, not everyones cup of tea. So, we respect what category you are currently in when picking a random story.
I guess now we can block categories, this might not be such an issue.

You might want to ask her first though.. could cause you trouble with the authorities if not. Might I add I want that feature to go for all genders, not only femmes.

Hey Gav...I know it was mentioned some time back about improvements to the PM system...I recall being able to sort messages by sender mentioned as being in the works...and not a moment too soon, if you ask me... Don't know if it was brought up before, but I was wondering if we could add other features to the messaging system...notably the ability to forward messages, and add multiple member names to a single message... Right now it seems we can either send a message to a single recipient, or our whole friends list...it would be nice to able to send a single message to a few individuals... My for today...

Good ideas Alan, I've asked for a few changes to be made to the storage setup of mail too.
We need to purge old messages from our system, they are taking up a lot of space. 100K members x 200 messages = lots.
So, messages (in your inbox or sent box) older than say 3-6 months will be automatically deleted. Those that people wish to keep, can be placed in a storage folder.

I was at a site that used that system, they also had a limit to how much space the mail was allowed to take up. I have a weird dream about pictures uploaded to lush, if it's not used (like being seen in any space at all on lush, say a removed forum picture, that is not in any users profile area) it'll be deleted from the server within some days.

Yes, a storage limit would be good Cat, smart thinking. Otherwise people might simply select all their messages and move them to the storage folder, which would accomplish nothing for us whatsoever in terms of space saving.
I think the image management would be impossible to code!

When you ask someone to be a friend, have a text box there so you can send them a reason why you're asking.

I'm new here and if this has been brought up then please accept my apologies.
I'm wondering if there's a way to make use of that profile info you collect on people (particularly the interests) to recommend users with similar interests to each other?
One of the reasons I'm back here is that your chat, connect and friend features are great. But the search features for other users is limited.
It would be great to be able to: - search for multiple interests rather than one by one - select multiple preferences rather than just one. This way if you wanted to look for everybody that is bi-curious and straight, you could do that in one shot.
You might already have a way to find who is online and then initiate conversations with them. I just haven't found it yet.
I do realize however that the regulars are not happy with random people sending friend requests, so perhaps that's why you aren't making the 'find' aspects any more robust.
In any case, my thoughts for now. Am enjoying the site so keep up the good work.

I don't mind having people send friend requests. This is a social network so I understand people want to talk and mingle. However, I'd like the story process to go quicker.

I don't know how complicated this would be to implement but I think it would be a great addition to the profiles if there was a favorite poems section. Instead of the poems and stories being lumped together in the favorite stories section, have a favorite poems section right underneath. Sometimes I want to add a poem as a favorite but I can't bring myself to delete a story I really like to make room for the poem.

Hmmm...I can understand that Nic, but would there be a warning before they're going to be deleted? And could they be "archived?"... I realize I probably have way too many messages I really don't need, but there are older ones that I'd like to keep...discussions that led to story ideas, that sort of thing... Don't tell me I might actually have to clean out my inbox...jeez... Drive me to drink...

Re the messages, the archive you are talking about DM, would be the storage folder.
If we allowed all messages to be archived, there would be no point in changing the system!
Everyone will be sent a message, warning them that the mail server is going to be purged of old messages, and they will have 2 weeks or so, to do so. After that, it will be an ongoing process our end.
A mail storage limit should be implemented too.
