I'm not sure if this site has an editors program, I haven't noticed it yet, but I am an editor for my two other sites that I post on, and I don't have a problem with helping out here also! I opened this thread for other authors to post their information too if they are interested in helping out too! PLEASE DON'T INCLUDE YOUR INFORMATION IN THIS THREAD IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EDITOR! Thank you for offering your services.
We road tested this a year or so ago. In short, it failed.
Why? A number of reasons.
1) People were submitting stories containing, what we deem, illegal content (rape / cp / beastiality etc). So, unless a story moderator reads the stories prior to them going to an editor (talk about double-handling), this will always be a problem.
2) Some lazy members were using it as a free editing service, sending many of their poorly crafted stories to our unsuspecting volunteer editors.
Our story moderators do a light edit to correct minor errors, but where writers obviously need help with the basics, they are given a list of reading references / quick guide help links.
If those aren't enough, we encourage writers to post in this section, asking for help from a volunteer. That way, those that seriously wish to improve their craft, can get one on one attention.

That makes it sound as though the VE is a moderator already, and let's face it, all sites are set up, developed and grow in their own way. What works at other places is great for them, but is not necessarily appropriate elsewhere. Here at Lush, our system has been in place for some time now and for the most part works quite well.

Well I didn't mean to make this an argument among the masses.  ALL I can say is that I Volunteered. Charmbrights and I belong to another site that I belong to, and it works well there, so I know that's his argument on the subject.  Either people are going to see this and ask for help or they're not. I don't know what else to say about it...

It's very kind of you to volunteer and make the suggestion, but what is more likely to happen is we, the Moderators, will send a writer to ask for help in the Forum. When that happens, you can pick it up and help the person out. So I suggest you keep an eye out for those requests. While we often suggest writers come and ask for help they rarely do, relative to the frequency with which we suggest it. It is up to the individual to take the leap.

Would anyone care to make suggestions on which software they use to write stories? I presently use Word on a Mac but it is designed as a tool for everything. I would love to find software designed just for the writer, that will catch editing items, but keep is simple.

Charmbrights, if all of the authors who may step up as volunteer editors were themselves as conscientious as you about following our guidelines, such a program might very well work as you envisioned. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. It would engender hard feelings all around if a volunteer spent significant time working with a writer to polish a story, only to have it rejected for a content violation that a moderator would have spotted straightaway. Generally, we advise a writer to post a request for editing assistance here only after the story's content has been checked, thereby greatly reducing the chance of such a scenario occurring. We do sincerely appreciate the offer to help out, and hope you'll check back regularly for requests posted by writers.

If I'm having problems with a story I might ask someone to help me out, but never someone I'd never talked to before. I am not secure enough in my writing to ask any of the writers I respect to read my story and give me opinions, so I certainly wouldn't just send one off to a complete stranger for that purpose. Maybe it would be a good idea to build small writing groups with at least one experienced editor. Someplace where you could get to know people and be free of those who would just join in to hurt your feelings or make you feel like a loser, and there are a lot of people like that. I meet them in the chat rooms sometimes.

A Google search might help you find something...if you are on Facebook, there are various writing groups, some geared towards erotic stuff...
There are a lot of writing blogs, and a lot of groups. There must be a lot of people writing or trying to learn to write. I've learned a lot here at Lush and from links posted here too, which often lead to other links, etc. Having a chat room where people could discuss writing would be fun, if you could find people who actually wanted to do that.

That's actually a good idea...you could start one, you can create your own chat rooms here at Lush... And thanks Jeff...actually, there are quite a few things out there you can buy writing related...heck, you can even hire a ghostwriter to write a story for you...

Thanks all, I think I will just keep using Word and adding new words to my spell check dictionary. But is it really "pre-cum" and not "precum"; or is it “precome”?
