This phenomenon may happen to guys too, but I'm pretty sure it's more of a girl thing.

When you're out (socially) and strangers want to take take pictures of you, or more often to take pictures of you standing with them, what's your take on it? I'm not talking about dirty pics but more so pics that will probably end up posted on facebook and other social media sites. On occasion it's a club promoter/professional photog, but a lot of times it's total strangers (both young and old) that have had almost no interaction with you before they ask "Hey can I get a pic with you?"

I'm usually pretty nice about it (especially if I'm drunk) but when it happened last night, one of my girlfriends reacted really negatively to it. I think she was afraid of being part of some potential weirdo/douchebag's private photo collection.

What's your take on the whole social media photo-craze thing. And would it bother you to pose for pics with total strangers and not know where these things are posted or where they end up or is it just part of a fun night out?

Guys, feel free to chime in on this one too... especially as to why you guys ask. Is it a self-esteem thing to collect pics with strange girls to show your friends or post to your facebook wall to look popular, or what?

I have never heard of this. Does this really happen? Wow. It seems like a weird thing to do...."Hey there really hot looking woman, I can't ever get a girlfriend as hot as you are. Mind taking a pic with me so I can show it off of fb and fool my friends into thinking I have a shot with the hotties?" That's how I'd take it if I were a hot chick. Sadly I'm neither hot nor a woman. lol

This is pretty much the reason.

Ive had it happen to me before but ive usually been drunk so happily gone along with it, i dont mind really, its not like im letting him take naked pics

I have been asked more than a few times and generally find it acceptable, if I am approached right and I am in a good mood.

During my college days when I was a dancer in a Gentlemens Club, it was expected that we allow photo with the best of customers. But the least you would be wearing was a gstring.

Don't ask me to think how many of those pictures are posted somewhere.

It happens all the time. Since I'm not a big FB girl (because I hate the privacy issues with it), I'm not one of those photo-obsessed people that view the world through the lens of their camera-phone. I also don't really see the point of pics with strangers you don't even know the name of. It seems kind of desperate.

The best occasion: I was at a really trendy upscale place for dinner/drinks in NYC last year with a girlfriend. Some obviously 'moneyed' men at the table nearby sent us over some dirty martinis and then one guy comes over and says that they are celebrating some guy's 85th birthday and can he get a picture with us. I think we kind of felt obligated to go along with it. But for real... this tiny little OLD man who can barely talk/walk gets up and hobbles over to us with his cane and we end up posing with him for a pic like *he's the man*. Maybe he gets to look like a stud at the nursing home when he shows it off later... who knows. geek

I just think it's a weird thing to ask/do but seems to be more and more common these days.

I have had this happen to me and some of my friends many times. Sometiems I have gone along with it and said OK (usually I was a little drunk) but sometimes it felt creepy and I just walked away. I never realy thought about the pics ending up on facebook but I guess that is where they went. I did have a guy ask if he could takle a pic of me and few friends with his 90yo father once. That seemed pretty innocent but the guy grabbed my friend's ass when we posed with him. She shrugged it off saying whats the harm if it gave the old guy a thrill.

I too am not into the facebook thing. I opened an account but never posted anything and I never go there. But my daughters are into it bigtime. The whole thing is kinda scary to me.

when i was a lot younger someone thought it was cool to distribute photos of me taken at a party - of course, i was half naked.. ok, 100% naked.... really funny. i ended up ending friendships over it. i didn't have an issue with being seen naked, it was just that it was done without my consent, and i felt like it was a violation of friendship, especially since those photos ended up in the hands of people i didn't even know and i ended up dealing with a lot of fall out over it. now, i am very careful about even showing off G rated photos of myself on places like Lush, and even then, i've been burned once or twice, enough so that if you're seeing unedited pix of me, you better know how much trust i'm putting in you. Too many times you end up regretting it when that close friendship goes sour and you're left knowing they have porn shots of you. :p

lol - i might have gotten off the subject a bit, but to get back on... i'm camera shy as it is, so yeah, if some stranger asked for a photo with me? only one answer. NO! i mean, really, what for, so he can share it with friends and suddenly i'm his pretend girlfriend or a one night stand or something? it's just weird.

Agreed!

I have never heard of that before. I would understand though if the person was a celebrity. Other then that I think that is just weird. I'm not a pic collector and I have no intention of asking anyone for a pic, if someone wants mine that bad I would want to know them first before I say yes because I don't need my face to be on the next installment of People Of Walmart! I can see the harm that may come of it but as for me I don't really care as much about my pic, that's why I have mine in my avatar. I live a simple life so I feel not much can happen. As for why people do that they may want the memory or just to have something to masturbate to later, either way just seems weird.

You are right. When it happened to me part of me felt flattered and part of me felt creeped out. But I guess the alcohol was the equalizer so I did it. But I was always dressed although sometimes wearing pretty revealing outfits. The more I think about it now, the more creepy it sounds. I might show a naked pic of myself to someone but it would only be to people I choose. But even then, I may not show my face directly. And like Her Royal Spriteness said, it would only be someone I trusted very much. And even then it may just be a glimpse of a pic in my image gallery where they could look but not copy it. But my real friends would probably never ask either. As I would never ask a friend for a pic, naked or otherwise.

For any of us who has done it, I am sure we were part of a fascinating story told to the guys buddies. " Look who I banged last night , he begged me for it. Said I was the best ever".

Guess we live and learn, Never Again!!!!

It usually happens at clubs or on the beach. My first thought was maybe not because I would have no control over where the picture was used. I figured what the heck go ahead. Eveyone has a phone with a camera in it and millions of pics are taken everyday. If I am dressed to get attention or I am wearing a skimpy bikini why would I be shocked if someone wants my pic.

This happens to me frequently when I am in costume, my answer is always the same, a polite "No".

I'm with Nikki and Sprite on this! It happens and lot and before FB, I just found it a bit creepy. But now am seriously creeped out at the thought of photo with strangers being splashed all over the net. Maybe I'm just paranoid....

Happened to me at JIMS last year...oddly enough hubby wanted me dressed sexily, he said it was a tribute to the vehicles, please!lol, and quite a few guys asked for pics with them and the cars...hubby always politely stepped aside as if it was brotherhood or something!

Just my feeling on this. I would never ask a girl that i didn't know to do that. Sounds a bit creepy to me. I just would never do it. I would go and talk to girls that i think are single and hopefully it may lead to a great night out. Just a picture
though. I'd never do it.

it has happened to me quite a lot in clubs! like ur friends are taking a pic of u and then along comes a stranger and jumps in the photo... once we were sitting on some seats, my friend was taking a pic of me and a door man came and sit next to me and got into the photo. Tho he did chat me up afterwards. i dont know why people do it tho- i would never!

I agree with you here. I've done 'self-pix' with guys at the bar & they're uploaded on Facebook. A lot of that was going on New Years Eve. But I'm usually socialising with them a little first.

I have seen guys do this in nightclubs and I have been asked by chicks to pose with them. When I was single and a little drunk I have posed with chicks I did not know. Later I'd be a little freaked out because in the past I was victimized by a stalker chick who was very good with Photoshop.

Just one question for Sprite. Those pictures the other night when you and your mistress had me disrobe and wear a dog collar and chain and pose with y'all...just what are y'all doing with those?

It does happen but not very often in my case. If i'm with my girlfriends and there's generally more that 3-4 of us, we all usually get in the shot but if a randomer asked and i was alone, then NO! And when we do agree, it's usually when we actually know the guy's name so we can locate him on FB or whatever.

This happens to me pretty often too and I'm usually pretty nice about it. I don't mind having my picture taken on an average day, so if you thrown in other factors like me having a few drinks in my system and/or me being all dolled up, I'm usually even more eager to jump in a random pic. The only time it ever really bothers me is when the person seems to have a hidden agenda. I don't like it when I'm trying to have a good time and someone is trying to snap pics of me without me knowing it. If someone asks me to take a pic with them, 9 times out of 10 I say yes. When I catch people trying to be sneaky about it, it creeps me out. It's also annoying when they ask to take a picture and then do something sleazy at the last minute (acting as if they're licking my breasts, grabbing at my cleavage, and any other weirdo provocative poses you can think of). I don't mind taking pics with random people, just don't be an ass about it.
