I wonder why we as a society fear drugs so much that we won't even allow marijuana to be used to treat illnesses. Despite the fact that medical marijuana has been approved by many states the federal government and the rest of the states have decided that it is only a recreational drug.
I'm not denying that it is a recreational drug, and I believe that it should be legalized for that purpose. However, for the government to rule that there is absolutely no evidence that marijuana is useful for medical treatment flies in the face of scientific evidence. There is no reason whatsoever for the criminalization of marijuana use among adults aside from individual moral reasons not to use it. I am willing to concede that there might be arguments against it's use, both medical and social, but I am arguing against criminalization and medical ignorance. Once again religion and politics have overruled medicine.
There is evidence that marijuana can benefit glaucoma and muscular sclerosis patients. It is also useful for the horrible effects of chemotherapy for cancer patients. THC in capsule form isn't helpful because the patient throws it up. Smoking pot helps with the nausea and improves the appetite. Making a cancer patient suffer through the side effects of chemo is cruel when there is a way to ease the symptoms.
There needs to be a national policy that allows people in every state to have access to medical marijuana. Ideally, from my point of view, the war on marijuana needs to end now. Criminalization of drugs has caused more problems than it has solved. The money used to wage war against drug cartels could be used in treatment centers for people who abuse drugs, but that is another topic.

I agree with you...whatever it was you said... Wow, this stuff is good...I can swear you look like a bear... No, seriously...I agree with you that marijuana should be legal for cancer patients, as well as people who are not cancer patients...and it can no doubt benefit those with glaucoma...as well as people who perhaps don't have glaucoma... Let me go give this some more thought and I'll be back...

I guess I'd better get busy manufacturing those brass pipes again, Huh Miss Little. I read the article that I think your referring to standingbear. It's so Uncle Sam like to continue to deny any medical benefits from smoking Cannabis Sativa. After prolonged, extensive studies by experts that agree to these benefits. Or Government which is not an expert at anything except overspending, disagrees with all these experts

With no big companies producing Cannabis Sativa on a large scale there is no big money going into the pockets of our elected officials. Its is all about money as far as the government is concerned. They do not give a shit less about any thing else. The only experts they listen to are those that donate large sums of hard cold cash.

Big Pharma and the tobacco companies probably have this locked down tighter than a drum, which is also related to Cowboy's comments above. Legalize it and there are probably 6 or 7 billion worth of pills/injections (medications) that will be unnecessary for all those poor bastards who require pain alleviation or mood leveling. And you just know...the major tobacco operations have already grown the REALLY good stuff and are ready to roll joints by the quadrillions...if only taxation could be worked out. They've already gotten the other important logistics figured out.

I have several patients that I wish could take it! cancer and several other terminal illnesses casue anorexia in many of my patients (failure to thrive is a common nursing diagnosis we use). We currently utilize Marinol and it does help soem, but many patients who are terminal dont want to take the pills because of the related side effects(nausea, ect).
Who would have guessed that my little tale, the very First one I ever submitted to Lush would be read by so many? It shocks me a little to realize that it has now served over 20,000! Charge NurseThank you so very much to those who have read it!

I have seen this video DirtyM, but thanks all the same. In agreement with chefkathleen, it's a hilarious home vid. I especially like the part where she starts coughing after lighting up, and swearing how smooth they are. I used to enjoy the home rolled ones (cigarettes) until Uncle Scam figured out the loop hole and closed it tight. They now use what they call pipe tobacco, at least around here, and I don't like it as well as my old favorite; Farmers best. Why should we wait till they legalize Cannabis Al, I can already roll a nice big fat one!

Hey Bear...I liked the pictures of that store in the link you posted...where is that place anyway??? So, on a more serious note...does this mean that if marijuana is legalized, I can turn my Halloween pumpkin into a bong? Cool beans...

Ok I'm basically going to have to disagree with everyone here. I have never in my life done drugs and I never plan to. I'm not saying people who do them are 'bad'. I just think its a waste of time. Anyway, I dont agree will the government that there "is no medical use for marijuana." There is a use for it. HOWEVER, there is no use for it that we do not already have.
And Artman Im going to have to disagree with you on an extreme level. There are TONS of good reasons not to legalize marijuana:

One legal drug is enough for society to cope with.
