So, I have this really good story(in my opinion) and I would like to publish it here on lush...the only problem is that its too short:( I'm afraid if I mess with it, it will ruin the story. Advice?help?
P.S. there is only 536 words...

P.S. there is only 536 words... If the story is 536 words, then so be it. To misquote Mozart, "A story should have exactly the right number of words in it." Do not add padding just to make it longer to some arbitrary length, that will only make it less good. If there is an arbitrary lower limit on here, then post it somewhere else where they don't have unjustifiable rules excluding the very difficult art of flash fiction. I know a brilliant sci-fi story which is only 15 (yes - fifteen) words long.

Been awhile since I've seen this maneuver attempted! Good catch, Mod

Arbitrary? Unjustifable rules? You're making a judgment call on the standards Lush wishes to have? Based on what, and who are you anyway?

It's a brilliant (true) story, that! MORE! MORE! But... it's only four words! So I have taken the liberty of re-writing it for you. with capital correction:sprite wrote: I am a GENIUS, I am!

Having read the story, I think it would benefit rather than suffer from having a few more words. Think of it as filling out the story, not padding it.

Btw, if it's any consolation, I'm told the rate of alcoholism for story mods is only slightly higher than the average population...average population of what, I'm not quite sure of... Anyway, haven't had a chance to use this picture in a while...

Tough audience, sheesh! It's rare a story even gets started prior to the minimum word count we impose. Otherwise, it's little more than 5 or 6 paragraphs. You need to flesh out those bones a little GypsyChild. Take a look at some of the Editor's Picks if you need some pointers as to what makes a great story
