Hey everyone my netbook blew up and I was going to replace it with a similar model when I noticed everyone seems to have an Ipad and the Ipad 2's are at about the same price point with much more memory and a faster processor. All I really do is web browse (Lush of course!) and use Microsoft office for word processing, spread sheets etc. I don't know anything about Ipads and was wondering if you can watch videos, web cam and all the typical stuff my netbook does? So my dilemma is another netbook or an Ipad 2 with keyboard case what do you think? Bunny12

Hi Bunny,
Tablets in general is great for consuming information. Like browsing, playing music, videos, etc. If you need to create\edit content there is tools on Tablets however it does not yet match a full office suite like Microsoft Office or Open Office on a netbook or compact notebook.

I've always been an Apple girl but a while back I got a high-end Toshiba netbook (instead of an iPad) because I could use Microsoft Word etc on it for typing etc. as well as internet browsing. Then my mom got me an iPad for my birthday and while there's no .Word on it, it's soooooo much better for internet browsing, a much better screen, and far better quality apps etc. and doesn't have those annoying microsoft pop-ups constantly asking you to upgrade your software. Not sure if the iPad-2 has .Word capabilities, but if not, I'd really just recommend finding a way around it for typing etc (use an internet blog or type into an email-text and just keep saving it all so the content is online). I really wanted to like the netbook (purely because of .Word and the built-in keyboard option) but there's just no comparison. iPad wins as far as I'm concerned.

As far as I've been made aware by those that have iPads you can get Pages on it....which is Apple's version of Word, documents created in pages can also be saved 'as a word document' to allow them to be opened up on anything non-apple

I love my ipad since I bought a bluetooth keyboard for it. The pages app doesn't work as well as a full- blown word processor, but it's not bad.

BaldurDreams said it best. I love my iPad (2), I spend a lot of time playing games and browsing Internet on it, but when I want to actually do something -- edit some video clips, create a document, sync files with my phone, rip music, anything -- I need Final Cut Pro, MS Word, Photoshop, PDFCreator, ACDSee, Firefox, Windows Phone Connector, and the like. Stuff that will work only on Windows or Mac. A tablet computer does not hold a candle to the power of a desktop OS.

I had an iPad but never really used it so I gave it to my daughter. For me, I need the larger display of my laptop for work so I am never without it. So between my laptop and iPhone, I can do most everything I need to.
However, my daughter loves the iPad and all all 3 of my girls have them.

The iPad is a beating to type on. Yes, you can buy keyboard attachments, but if you're looking to do more than web-surfing and email, I'd trade the smaller iPad for the typing ease of a netbook.

Even though i LOVE mi Ipad2 i always see it like a grown up toy, if i had to choose between my macbook or my Ipad i would choose the Macbook ALWAYS, i know is not the same as a netbook, my point is you still cant do all the things you do on a comp on the Ipad.
btw Docs to Go its a great App for the ipad that has word, excel and all those, its not as good as the one for comps but its pretty good!

Thanks for all the advise everyone I decided I can't live without a SD card reader, a USB port and microsoft office so another netbook it is. I went with an Acer that has a little larger memory, hard drive and screen than my current Dell. Thanks again for all your replies! Bunny12

A good friend of mine bought an iPad 2 recently, with an additional keyboard, and uses it for her corporate gig all the time, while on the move. She has her word compatible documents and XLS spreadsheet compatible programs on there, and swears by it.
It does look a sexy piece of kit.
I am a late adopter to these kind of things, I'd probably buy a netbook or small laptop, knowing it will do everything I need it to, without a blink of the eye.

Asus Zenbooks are real nice -- 11 or 13 inch screens a little pricey but nice!

I dont like chatting when on my iPad as it doesnt allow me to do everything I want, but for reading and swimming through the forums its ok. I dont own a notebook, but if it was a choice between the two strictly for Lush, I would go for the notebook. Thats my 2c. (iAm!)
