I grew up in a town that was a lumbering capital at the end of the 19th century, they called us 'Lumberjacks' but we didn't have a mascot at games, it was just a team name.

Wildcats. Taken from non union oilmen who were the first residents of my town. Our mascot was Winky, an elected position usually held by a girl who wore a cat striped leotard. My senior year, the first guy was elected and he wore shorts and a shirt with the name Winkyman on it. This is all true, even I can't make this shit up! βIt is a great thing to know your vices.β β Marcus Tullius Cicero

The Rebels. And the mascot was a little guy in a vaguely Confederate uniform, with maple leaves replacing stars on the Confederate flag (since this was in Canada). Not sure anyone in my day actually took offense or at least there wasn't a big furor. Not surprisingly, that mascot is gone though they are still "The Rebels". They now have the "Rebel Lion" (Rebellion, get it?), a lion in a uniform made to look as un-Confederate as possible. ... a tree, haha no. Our mascots varied by grade. We got to choose who our mascot was (we were an all girls school). Freshman were always the same thing. Once into sophomore year, the class voted. Our class ended up with Curious George...and this is not a joke.
College: Tigers (I like the college mascot better)
