Do you prefer longer or shorter stories (as a rule of thumb and normalizing for quality)...? Mine tend to me longer and more complex, but wondering if most of you gals prefer a shorter and sharper style of prose...

On the rare occasion that I write, I challenge myself to make it as tight as possible without losing anything. Partly as a creative exercise in finding the essentials, but also because I've seen a lot of stories that tread water forever and mistake it for character development. The fear and the yearning It's gonna eat you alive

It really doesnt matter as long as the story can keep my interest. The only negative (if it really is a negative) I have with long stories is that sometimes they are so hot I get "sidetracked" while reading and I dont finish them in one session. Not that Im complaining!!

For me it isn't the length of the story as much as it is the details. I am a writer and I love to write....I was taught by one of my writing teachers a long time ago that your readers are not in your head so they can't picture what you can unless you involve them with all five of the senses. When I write I try to imagine what the taste, smell, texture, sound and look of a particular scene and write all or it down. It makes my stories a bit longer but I have been told by many people that they feel as if they are there...that they actually experience what I write. That is a huge compliment to me because that is what I am striving for and that is also what I like to read. If I feel as if I am in the story then the length doesn't matter!
