I have to admit a post over on Facebook by Craig Hart, editor of The Rusty Nail gave me the idea for a poem...but, I really had to visit this thread first before starting it... So...excuse me... Arrested By The Grammar Police...
It seems that lately I can’t get no peace, From all those so-called Grammar Police, Who for some reason think that I should care, The difference between there, they’re and their. They want to analyze everything I say, Just waiting for me to lie when I want to lay, And I really think they just do it because, They want to further some petty cause. So, what I do is I mess with there head, I write the word red when I really mean read, And I couldn’t care less if they throe a fit, Should I confuse the words elicit with illicit. And it really don’t phase me if I’m derelict, By writing something like “cause and affect,” I’ll just stare and say “Whatcha gonna do?” If I want to write that the sky is blew. Though I really shutter at the very thought, I’ll try to be discrete and not get caught, But if they should arrest me and throe me in jail, Just bee sure and come and post my bale. 05-06-12.

This makes me want to post in the Rage Cage, but I might be wrong.
"Dominate/dominant"
If you mean a person who is in control, they are a dominant person, and they dominate other people. They are not a dominate as a noun, it's a transitive verb (or something or other). They are a dominating dominant dominator who dominates. To be the "dominate" in a relationship isn't right! You would be the dominant (one) in the relationship. GRRRRR!
If I'm wrong, I will be so angry because it sounds so wrong to me! And now I've written so many variations of the damn word it ALL looks wrong!

Loose and lose...drives me nuts. And to, too and two is one of my biggest pet peeves, I cringe when I see it and yet when I'm rushing I still do it. Recently, I've seen a lot of breath and breathe. It's I take a deep breath, not I take a deep breathe. I breathe naturally, not I breath naturally. But hey, we all make mistakes.

It's unfixable, I'm afraid. Shylass, I'm so glad you posted that rant because that bugs me too! Another mistake I've seen a lot lately is peek and peak. If you're discreetly looking up her skirt, it's "peek"; if you're nearing climax, it's "peak." I'm an English teacher...I could paper a wall with lists of commonly confused words!! Actually, lass... http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/peaked I was referring to the ill-looking complexion it gives me when I am annoyed. So I am correct.

You know what really grinds my gears? When people "abbreviate" the word until to till. I've seen it all over the place, including in the business world (restaurants, bars, etc.). In what universe would you add and extra letter to something you are abbreviating? And don't even get me started on the missing apostrophe. What makes it worse is that till is a word in its own right. Maybe I should move this to the farking Rage Cage!

Learn Teach
'That'll learn him' is incorrect. Of course it should be 'that'll teach him.'

[/quote] this is a redneck sentence here in the states. I am so guilty of a lot of these mistakes. That is why we have proof readers for our stories. They pick out our bad stuff and spank it soundly.

"Per say" instead of per se (Latin for "in itself") I also get annoyed at the arbitrary (note, not random) use of the word "random" Warning: The opinions above are those of an anonymous individual on the internet. They are opinions, unless they're facts. They may be ill-informed, out of touch with reality or just plain stupid. They may contain traces of irony. If reading these opinions causes you to be become outraged or you start displaying the symptoms of outrage, stop reading them immediately. If symptoms persist, consult a psychiatrist. Why not read some stories instead CAM FUN COMPETITION ENTRY: DAGUERREOTYPE go on - it's only 500 words, you're not THAT busy

Maybe more carelessness than confusion, but I messed up "site" and "sight" in a Lush story ("the site of my wife's bald pussy" or something like that). Caught it on the last read through before posting but that was like the twelfth or so time I'd proofed it and I have no idea how I missed it on the other passes.
