http://www.ajc.com/health/marijuana-doesnt-harm-lung-1298470.htmlMarijuana doesn't harm lung function, study found By LINDSEY TANNER The Associated Press CHICAGO — Smoking a joint once a week or a bit more apparently doesn't harm the lungs, suggests a 20-year study that bolsters evidence that marijuana doesn't do the kind of damage tobacco does. Related Health stories » The results, from one of the largest and longest studies on the health effects of marijuana, are hazier for heavy users — those who smoke two or more joints daily for several years. The data suggest that using marijuana that often might cause a decline in lung function, but there weren't enough heavy users among the 5,000 young adults in the study to draw firm conclusions. Still, the authors recommended "caution and moderation when marijuana use is considered." Marijuana is an illegal drug under federal law although some states allow its use for medical purposes. The study by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham was released Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The findings echo results in some smaller studies that showed while marijuana contains some of the same toxic chemicals as tobacco, it does not carry the same risks for lung disease. I thought some of you might find this very interesting.
Now I've got the munchies....

Always wondered why the ganga smoking rastas I've hung out with in Jamaica weren't hacking up a lung how interesting. Legalize it and tax it like tobacco and wah la national debt gone! All kidding aside the medical benefits are numerous and it pisses me off the BIG lie that weed is a gateway drug and if you smoke a joint before breakfast you'll be a crack head by dinner is still popular and is total BS! Neurological disorders especially MS are greatly improved or kept in remission with the use of marijuana! Haven't met many self destructive pot heads but know a boat load of totally screwed up alcoholics.... Bunny12

I find those initial reports very encouraging...but, for the sake of assuring accuracy, since the health of Lush members may be at stake here, that further testing should be done... I will report back my findings at a later date...

I don't know man, when I used to smoke acres of weed a day I sure as hell got out of breath a lot faster when I ran. I don't care what any study says. The more you smoke anything the more short of breath you get when you strain your self... Even when I was fucking I could tell I wasn't a young bruce Jenner when I smoked all the time. I stopped smoking all day and It's better now.

Speak to anyone who's been smoking weed for many years, and you'll realise immediately they are a yard off the pace. I don't care what anyone says, it's obviously detrimental to a person's mental state.
On the other hand, it has proven medical benefits in some cases.
It's nowhere near as harmful as tobacco.
None of my friends smoke. Smoking cigarettes actually changes your physiology, and makes ALL your cells more prone to cancer. It's not just lung cancer, it's ALL kinds of cancer you are more susceptible to.

I'm sure smoking a cigarette "once a week, or a bit more" wouldn't hurt your lungs that much either. I'd like to see a comparison test with people that smoke every day. Put 'em on a treadmill and see how they do...
