If they want to, they should be able to. But it increases the chance of men wanting to have sex and rape. That's why it's dangerous. Because (I'm a man, not being sexist) a lot of men will take what they want. I personally don't do this. But women should have that choice if they want to.

I think that if people went nude, the world would be a better place. If a man can walk down the street without a shirt, then a woman should also be able to also be able to do this.

Topfreedom is equality, no questions asked. Should people be allowed to fuck in the streets? No. But the idea that having a pair of breasts out will damage children's childhood or incite rape or anything is just stupid. As long as it isn't attention seeking or sexual, nudity, for the most part, is completely natural and should be allowed.

What a repressed society we live in....It has been the norm in Europe for many many years....It has not incited riots or rapes(that we know of) of episodes of sexual intercourse on every corner....Common sense applies and says in town walking to work,,,,,no.....at the beach yes.....and at the parks yes....it would not take very long for the event to become normal and then everyone would wonder....why didnt we do it sooner.....

I think the main thing that needs to happen first is for people to be properly educated on the biological functions of breasts. They aren't playthings, though, they are fun to play with, but their true function is to feed babies. As I said, they are fun too look and play with, but people need to stop looking at them as if they are purely for sexual pleasure. If a woman is too hot and the only way she can stay cool is for her to take her top off, why should it be any different to when a man takes his off? I say if a woman wants to go topless in public, then she should be able to without the fear of being ogled.

The concept terrifies me! Because if public nudity becomes common place, what would be the fun of spying on a topless woman? Geishas were being erotic when they flashed some wrist. The female body is a beautiful thing, if it was nude all the time it would steal from the allure. I think rape would go down as a result, since men would become desensitized to nudity. But as to the question of should women be allowed to? Yes. But there are two drawbacks:
1) This means agreeing to daughters being topless.
2) There are a few ugly female bodies, and they would ironically be the first to go topless.

Yes, definitely. I'm about 99% sure that in the next 100 years, women's breasts will no longer be considered nudity. I guess part of he reason, because they flash them so often, but more importantly, because they shouldn't have been considered nudity in the first place. Just because they have milk in their breasts, they are considered nudity? If anything, they were just trying to make people want them, simple as that. Or, it was decided by someone really uptight. Either way, it's just a matter of time, simple as that. Although, when they aren't considered nudity, will guys still love the sight of them, outside of sex?

That's the same argument used for why women should wear burkas. If men can't control themselves under certain circumstances, it's men who should keep out of those circumstances, not women.

I don't have a strong opinion in favour or opposition of this, but it should the same rule should apply to both men and women in my mind. I could imagine a rule where being topless is not allowed for anyone within city limits, but it is allowed for all in rural areas, or something like that.

If you ask me both men and women, whether adults or children ,should be allowed to be nudist if they want to be in public place....I mean this is how they would actually learn to respect the opposite gender....let the people roam nude and I am sure the people would learn to respect each others bodies

Good heavens, No!

The thought of all the broken crockery resulting from being carelessly brushed aside by all those unfettered boobs is reason enough alone, without taking into account Rob Harper's point...it will invariably be the heifers that are the first to unholster themselves...perish the thought. *shudders*

In a Utopian world, yes. Men go topless, so why not women? That's the only reason I voted yes, because of equality.

But to be honest, I get as many whistles, shouts, kissy noises, 'fuckin bollocks' etc as it is, just with a tight top and hot pants. I will always get that (well for a few years at least). If I went topless, the novelty would soon wear off. Sometimes less is more.

Here where I live (Ontario) it is legal for women to go topless in public. The law was passed many years ago now, and to be honest I don't think I have yet to see a woman topless anywhere.

I do believe we should have the right to, should we choose. However, I do believe there is a time and a place for it, same as men.

And always the old "No shoes, No Shirt, No Service" still apllies! My 2 cents

Yes, why should they not be free to go topless as I or any other man can. It should be a personal choice.

Reading through some of the posts, I'm thinking some don't get it. For a couple hundred years now, women's breasts have been considered more of a sexual "item" than part of the human body. Therefore, it became illegal for women to run around bare breasted. However, over the last decade, men's chest/breasts/nipples are become more and more considered (in some cultures in the US) as a sexual "item" similar to women's breasts.

Women do look at a man's firm chest the same ways a man looks at a woman's chest. You know, nice firm pecs; nice shape, size of breasts for women. So it is a double standard. You can argue that women's breasts are more sexually orientated. That is because of the way we were raised. Let's take a step back for a second. The purpose of women's breasts... for coddling and feeding a child. A man's breast..... purpose? Showing signs of excitement through the nipples.. same as women's breasts.

And then there is: A woman walking by a construction zone or a park where workers are not wearing shirt.. mmmm, she's thinking..... nice hard pecs, abs, wow, look at that 6 pack (not referring to beer)... Nope, no sexual thoughts going on there right?

Yet again, the double standard. Don't be me wrong I'm not man bashing, but it was men the created the original laws. In the 1200's, it was no big deal for a woman to go around topless or even naked because they knew: Naked does not mean sex. Naked does not mean women are inviting "sex".

If we go around taking actions based on the population that are out for causing trouble, we would live in a very restrictive society. Did you know, a woman's dress style, was never considered a "invitation" to be sexually assaulted until the late 70's when a man was on trail for rape? He was found innocent based on it was "her fault". Thankfully, now (and for years now) the mentality of law enforcement and the courts do not look at a women's dress style as an invitation to sex.

Bare breasts should be like so many laws dealing with our bodies, a choice. Not a regulation. Did you know, based on percentages, that nudist as a culture have far less violent crimes than "clothed cultures"? The percentages for sexual abuse are less than 1%. Of the less than 1%, 35 % of those were from a known sex offender that got involved with a nudist family and not at resorts, but within the community the nudists lived. This is not just in the US, but world wide.

The only reason nudity is "wrong" is because we were raised be taught that nudity is wrong.

You can twisted it, turn it, look at it upside down, the same arguments why a woman should not go bare chested is the same as why men should not. Or in my believe, same arguments as to why men and women should both be allowed. NUDITY DOES NOT MEAN SEX. Nor is it an invitation or reason for sexual abuse.

Anyway, my two bits.

It's not JUST the men although they are the worst which is why they're the ones with the reputation. I've always considered my daughters to be pretty intelligent and level headed but I know two of them will attend a function like the poster.

How many do you think are there? That's a pretty big place.

Hell, I'm 72 and I get young girls that yell and whistle at me walking down the street in my kilt, never an older one though. Not many, but it happens. Why? What is there about us that makes some have to thrust their ego out there and show everyone what they're thinking? Shit, I have those feelings all the time but have no need to share them with others that really don't care.

It is all about respect and equality. When people stop acting like animals in heat and more like intelligent beings that think it will work, then if your not cold, why clothes? I think we should all be nudists but then I think a bitter truth is much better than a sweet lie. Our society can't handle it.

And how will anyone know how important I am if I'm not wearing my thousand dollar suit or dress? Damn, I am important and you should get out of my way! Right?

When our cultures start treating women like equals instead of the sub-servient roles they play now it will get better. Pretty much when we mature enough as a society to where anarchy works as the perfect government that will work too. I don't think that will happen though because to many can't control their ego. They HAVE to be in charge and tell everyone else how they should run their lives. Of course their way is the right way.

It's ALL about sex.

My 2 cents

I am always a gentleman.

Thank you for the support, but..... the part it increases the chance of men wanting sex and rape.. Did you know that in the East Village (New York) where it is common for women to walk around topless, sexual assault is one of the lowest in New York?

But yes, unfortunately - in some places - it may increase the violent crimes of sexual abuse and rape... But done by sex offenders or would be sex offenders, but the mentality is already in those peoples minds to commit the crimes.

The assumption that nudity "causes" crime is wrong. There has been and is on going studies that prove nudism does not cause crime. A person that is a sex offender has the mentality of such. It is not brought on by nudism or a dress style that is considered sexy or revealing... those are just excuses by the criminals which has been grabbed by the media so the excuses became the norm as to what we think is the cause of some situations. However, we all know deep down, naked or dressing nice or revealing is not the ROOT problem of these people.

Would I personally go topless if it were legal and common practice? Probably not. Mostly due to modesty, but also because being stupidly fair-skinned, I burn ridiculously easily, even with SPF 1000 sunblock on. Do I think it should be legal? Yes. Absolutely.

I lived in Austin many years ago. It was decided that breasts were not genitalia at that time. Therfore women (and men) could go topless in public. I saw one woman topless sunbathing just off a public street. You would usually see topless women at some swimming pools.

It was rare (meaning almost never) to see topless women outside of a situation where you would also likely see a topless male. Restaurants, etc., could still have "no shoes, no shirts, no service" capabilities.

So basically, I see this as a tempest in a teapot. Women should be given the same "topless" rights as men. If that happens, you will probably see topless women at the beach or pool, or any other place where people sunbathe, but that would probably be about it. If men are going to ogle a topless woman, theyre going to ogle her in short shorts, and a tight tshirt with no bra as well, and that is legal attire.
