Topic You know you're a parent when....
Posted 16 Jul 2014 14:18

You know you're a parent when you catch yourself saying, "Because I said so!"

You know you're a parent when you know exactly where everything that everyone in your house has lost, but you can't remember why you walked into a room.

You know you're a parent when people stop calling you by your first name, and refer to you as (insert child's name) mom (or dad).

Hmm I can't choose just one. It is an odd mix and in no particular order:

(Sittin' on) the dock of the bay by Otis Redding

Bombtrack by Rage against the machine

Long as I can see the light by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Come away with me by Norah Jones

The house of the rising sun by The Animals

Jolene by Miley Cyrus (Yes I know she didn't do it originally. I just like her version better)

dead like me was one of my favorites.

Carnivale

They just cancelled it and nothing was explained.

Or maybe Farscape

Topic What's the hardest thing about being in a relationship with you?
Posted 23 Jun 2014 06:54

Apparently I'm distant. I tend to withdraw from people because I don't need them around me all the time. I need my alone time. Guys tend to have a hard time with me not needing constant attention or hearing them say I love you everyday all day.

For me, if I consider you a friend or someone that I love I don't need to have it reaffirmed everyday. I feel like they should have faith in me and our relationship. I find it completely exhausting and a huge turn off when someone needs me to constantly reassure them.

Topic What do you tip at a restaurant and how is that figured?
Posted 12 Jun 2014 08:54

I have been a waitress at different types of restaurants, a hotel, and a bar, and I also managed a restaurant for five years so tipping is a must. I walk into a place and the tip is automatically 20%. It is up to them to keep it at 20%. If they are wonderful I will go up, and if not I will go to 5%.

I admit to leaving a penny for each person in our party one time because the waitress was so rude. She was fussing at another waitress, used a curse word in front of my children, and put our plates onto the table without even looking at us. She didn't even set them in front of anyone. She set them on the edge and walked off still fussing at the other server. She didn't even come back except to drop the bill off. I wanted her to know that I didn't forget to tip her she was just awful.

Be a woman and own your part in this. You have been given the opportunity to stand up and be a real woman, but instead you have chosen to slink around behind the scene like a proper cunt. You think you are special? Ha! You never have been bitch. You were just another stepping stone in long line of stepping stones.

When I want a challenge I watch Hebburn, though my wife's accent is pretty close. She's from less than an hour away.
My wife still has problems sometimes knowing what some people here in Georgia are saying .

I can only imagine she does at times. My husband is only from up north and I still get the, "What was that?"

I love different accents and learning new slang.

Not a Geordie lad, but I married a Geordie lass. Actually she's from a bit north of Tyneside and they don't really consider themselves Geordies, plus she's easier to understand . LOL

I took it as a personal challenge, and I worked hard at that. icon_smile I like listening to my friend talk, especially when he really gets going. I guess it's the same with me, I have a slight southern accent that gets stronger at certain times or if I'm talking to certain people.

I had no idea Charlie Hunnam was a Geordie. Well there you go!

Learn something new every day with me around haha.

One a bit of a side note, one wierd thing I've noticed, is that in Game of Thrones, Liam Cunningham who plays Ser Davos, uses a geordie accent (and he's Irish too, which shows he is a awesome actor because it's a hard dialect to perfect).

The only other TV show notorious for having Geordies, would be Geordie Shore of course

I quite enjoy learning something new everyday. I was thinking that Ser Davos sounded Geordie! My friend doesn't watch Game of Thrones so I never thought to ask him.

I will admit I secretly like the Geordie Shore. Shhh

There really are a ton of talented people from Newcastle.

Thanks. I Googled it and found the ones you mentioned and few others. But what I found said it is used for people throughout Northeast England and not just Newcastle. But Ill go with you what you said!!

Either way, the guys you all posted pics of are pretty hot, well maybe not the first one posted!! HAHA. And Cheryl Cole is from there too so I assume you have lot of hot girls there too. Are women called Geordies too? Or maybe Geordettes? LOL May have to visit there someday.

There are a ton of different theories out there, and lot of them are very believable.

Sorry if there was any confusion I am not a Geordie, but one of my best friends is. I'm just a southern lady. icon_smile And yes the women are Geordies too, and some of them I've seen are very beautiful.

From all the pictures I've seen it's a beautiful place, and they have a right to be proud.

Why are they called Geordies? Just a dumb Yank asking!!dontknow

From my understanding, the most plausible theory is that it comes from a derogatory slang given to the people of Newcastle by the Scottish Jacobites in the 1745 Rebellion. The supporters of King George (Geordie) II in Newcastle stood up against them, and earned themselves the name Geordies. The term Geordie is used for natives of Newcastle only, and they are very proud of it. There is a ton of amazing history stories related to that area.

Then again, it could be because of George (Geordie) Stephenson. He was a mining and railway engineer who came from the north east.

Sorry, I'm a history nerd. Embarassed

While it's true that he played for Newcastle, Yohan Cabaye is very much French

You are absolutely correct on that so I added a disclaimer. icon_smile But these two men are both proper Geordie's.

And some look like this. Disclaimer: He played for Newcastle United, but he is from France, but he is so fine, I over looked that little detail.
