I've heard of this too, but it's a pretty sweeping generalization and certainly not the usual trend I've seen among people my own age who are still single and having fun. I think it's definitely a cultural thing sometimes. Certain cultures encourage kids to stay at home and tied to mommy's apron for as long as possible. The rest of us are out there making our own car payments and rent/mortgage payments. If you're able to put off marriage/kids after college or university for a few years, you have a great little window to explore who you are as a person and enjoy life, travel, relationships, and whatever little hedonistic fantasies you want to explore while the more traditional types are paying for wedding expenses, diapers and mini-vans.
Definitely. Mexican culture is like this. Mexicans want their kids to live at home until they're married.

For those men and women who are 25 plus years old and that don't care for their responsibilities I say BS. 25 is half of 50 and the next 25 will go by in a blink of an eye.
Just venting folks. Really shouldn't have. It's pointless. Can one open the eyes of young people? Do you think we have created a childlike young adult society?
Have we prolonged their growth and regressed? Tired of the baby stuff. : )
I agree. I think "we" as a society created them. They didn't just sprout up from nowhere. Parents are responsible for the attitudes of children today, sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes not so much.
Yes I think it is their parents fault. If blame is to be assessed. Why else would 20 and 30 somethings be moving back into their parents houses or not leaving in the first place? Getting married later isn't a sign of immaturity IMO. I think it's more them not wanting to leave the safety of their parents houses and incomes. I've heard of a lot of people that age still living at home after college and the parents doing the kids laundry, paying car insurance, health insurance, etc. And they don't mind doing it! I've also heard of them paying for the "child's" apartment or car payment. So if mommy and daddy take care of you all of your life, pay for everything, where do you learn to stand on your own two feet? Even animals, which aren't supposed to be as smart as humans, kick the baby out of the nest at a certain age.
Yes you're right about that chef. I see it in my own family. Some of my cousins and 1 of my sisters are fucking useless. I went to a trade school and have a great job, I'm paid really really well, enjoy my freedom with no boss directly above me and have weekends and almost all of December off. And I went to fucking art school and I'm a stoner.
My sister on the other hand went to UC Davis. Maybe in the top ten schools in north America. My dad pays for her rent, bills, insurance, car, everything really. Shes beautiful too, what you imagine when someone says mexican princess. When she visits me I buy her lunch and fill up her tank because she works part time and has no respect for money and is always out of it or lying that she's out of it... Fuck, enough with that. Pisses me off just thinking about it.
What I'm getting at is, yes my dad would love to kick her out of the nest but he knows that if he does she is going to crack her damn head open on the ground. What to do?
It's crazy how different we are. On paper you'd think I'd be the fuck up and she would be awesome.
Blame the economy I guess

I finally got a chance to read this entire thread, so now it's time for me to chime in.
I am an atheist. I am 6 on the scale (one down from the max) because there is no actual proof. The same would be true of 1 on the scale, there is no actual proof for that either.

FicklePickleTickle....
Thank-you for sharing your thoughts on this topic.... very interesting indeed!!! I was almost disowned by my family for being the only person not to get confirmed with the church when I was twelve. My sisters and my mother and my aunts and uncles were all telling me to just do it, doesn't matter if I beleive it or not, just do it. I couldn't for all the reasons you mentioned. I could not make a promise that I could not follow through with. I could not stand there and say, "Yes, I beleive that God is the one true God, and will follow in the teachings of the Bible."
Again.... thank-you for your thoughts!!!!
I'm the only one not confirmed in my family too. It was out of procrastination though really. I'm also the oldest and my parents cut their parenting teeth on me and kind of let me just get away with it. Not my sisters though... They thought it was so damn unfair that they had to go through it all while I was running around not studying.

I'm 28 so I think you're talking about my generation. I do tend to agree with you a little on this. I just heard on the news that the age for marriage is at an all time high in America. Females at 26 and males at 28 I think. Young people just aren't jumping into things like marriage. It could be that we're more immature or it could mean that we are smart and mature enough to realize we should wait.
You have to remember that humans are living longer now too. 40-50 years old I consider middle aged if people are living to 90 years. 100 years ago people were getting married in their teens and dying in their 60's or so. (I'm not a historian so please don't hold my numbers against me just trying to make a point) So maybe 20 year olds are acting like teenagers and 30 year olds are acting like 20 year olds because society has changed. For the better maybe.

I wish I would have taken a picture but I saw a guy once at walmart that was dressed head to toe in camouflage. I'm talking camo converse all stars, camo pants, camo shirt, camo unzipped hood, camo bandana, cam hat and the piece de resistance was a pair of camo sunglasses...
And then went out and got into one of those pick-up trucks with camo on the bottom of it.
I wish I could have seen his car... This guy was more of the "gangster" variety. So maybe he had his primer colored civic waitimg for him with some camo seatcovers and a camo air freshner.

That same day (I don't go to walmart often) I saw a guy with some really shitty mustard stained ripped grey sweatpants with a matching shirt, slippers and a massive thick gold chain. Like this thing was as thick as rope. He probably could have traded that chain in for a whole new wardrobe.

You don't sound like an asshole at all, felix. I had a problem with the way that guy did it, not that the guy didn't want kids involved.
Yeah I agree the lying about it is douchey but... Man it must be really hard to tell a blind date, especially if you hit it off, you can't see her anymore right after she tells you she has a kid. That takes a lot of balls, maybe more than I have. I'm probably giving the guy too much credit but by telling her he'd text her later tells me he at least considered whether he could handle a kid or not. He made his choice and chose the cowards way out by just not returning her call but I don't know if many of us wouldn't have done the same.
I'm sure most of you have been not called back after a woman/man says they're going too. Maybe for something really shallow but does it really make a difference? In the end the result is the same and you spare yourself a hurtful conversation or exchange. We all know that if you don't get a call back within 24-48 hours it's a no. I thought that was one of the oldest rules in the dating book...

I guess I'm the only asshole in a sea of gentlmen... Or maybe the only one who's bullshit meter isn't in the red.
Some guys just aren't ready for kids of their own forget about someone else's child. Yeah it's a bit fucked up to just cut off contact but does your friend really need to hear the guy say "Sorry girl, I really like you a lot it's just that you have a baby and I can't hang." Probably better he cuts her off right away instead of getting in her pants for a month then moving on after blaming the kid... Now thats fucked up.
I also think that women with children aren't the best candidates for blind dates. No matter how cool the guy is, telling him you have a baby is going to hit him like a sledge hammer even if the guy has kids of his own. It's still a biggie. Expect the date to be awkward after that. Now if the person setting up the date let's the guy know the girl has a kid beforehand and he agrees to go on the date then it's a whole different story.
Topic Where would we be without religion?
Posted 16 Nov 2010 23:54
lol- I thought about that : )
I do tend to think that it's impossible to exist without religion. It's too hard for humans to answer all the questions of the universe, at this point in our evolution anyway. So I think people just need something like religion to not make them feel so small and insignificant in the universe.
I believe it is possible to exist without religion, organized religion in my mind keeps people from thinking for themselves, Faith is a different story. I do believe we need faith in something in order to survive the trials of life. I believe if you have faith, then you will never feel small and insignificant. We may never answer all the questions of the universe, as every answer brings with it a new set of questions.
The part I bolded is pretty much what I was saying. I was saying that religion is sometimes used as an easy way for some people to cope with life. Why am I here? Are we really just an accidental freak occurrence in the universe? Is there something more than this?
Or maybe just a nice way of saying it's a crutch.
I get what your saying about faith and religion being different things though. But in this hypothetical reality sooner or later some of the people will start talking to each other about their faith and some will agree more than others and start hanging around together. Maybe some of them will build a building to hang out and talk about their faith...

I actually think that all drugs, especially pot, should be legalized.
Drugs would be more pure if they were regulated. Also, there would be less crime.
And the government will have more money to spend by:
1. taxing the drugs heavily (like they already do to cigarettes)
2. saving money that they're spending on enforcement and imprisonment
That being said, selling or giving drugs to children should still be a crime.
But Penny Please think about the drug dealers families. You don't want them to go hungry. What about the money launderers and arms dealers? They have families too. Not to mention that the cartels in Mexico have put in a lot of time and money staying 10 steps ahead of the law. If the cartels don't get their money how are they going to payoff the mexican politicians that allow the cartels to continue to import drugs into the USA?
Mexico is drowning and clinging to the USA's leg, stop the flow of money to the cartels and you greatly reduce the corruption which blocks the USA and Mexico from getting rid of the north american cancer that is the cartels.

Was it your first time smoking? Four huge bong rips of "skunk" is kind of a lot even for bob marley. Surprised you didn't just fall asleep. You sure it wasn't peyote you were smoking?
They say the shit nowadays is even stronger. I guess that's good though cause you don't really need to smoke very much.
I was 26 and a veteran rope smoker at the time. The guy who cultivated it, I had only known a short time and met him a few times. He was a good ole boy from Farm Country. Met him through a mutual friend who knew us both very well.
It wasn't my first rodeo, so-to-speak.
And yeah, I'm sure that most of that which is available today is now twice to six times as potent.
Good ole boys, blacking out, towers... I think if that would have happened to me I wouldn't smoke either.
Maybe if it were legal or at least decriminalized people would be more educated on the stuff. I know I would never give anyone I don't know really well as a huge stoner that much weed.

half a lifetime ago, when I was about the age that some of you are now, I inhaled four humongous bong tokes of what was then being called Skunk. It was grown on an Iowa corn farm, harvested and hung to dry in a hay barn and you could smell a ziplocked bag of the buds from 30 feet away.
I was not prepared for its potency.
Yeah, you could say I OD'd on that. lmao
When I came to, I was at the top of a 140 foot tall communications tower, wondering how the hell I had climbed up there without slipping and falling to a horrible end. Unlike the Jim Stafford song, I was not naked, but I did take a vacation and not even leave the 'farm'.
There was a missing 3 hour chunk of time there.

Not sure if you're looking for any guys perpective but I'll give it anyway.
I myself don't handle it very well. I've had three girlfriends that I have met at work. The last one was two years ago so Ive got it out of my system, kind off. But the relationships (more than just fucking for a month) I've developed out of the workplace have been pretty good. If you can work together you can probably live and hang out together too. The only reason they ended was because I was immature and not thinking straight.
I'm not so quick to hit on coworkers now because as I get older it doesn't seem so innocent...

I think it disturbing that this is even an issue at all. The sight in question was hit by debree from one of the planes and body parts found at the sight. Am I wrong or was there a Greek Orthodox church destroyed at the same time?. When asking for permission to rebuild thay were told no. This is a religion that still debates the extermination of Jews and other religions islamists deem improper. There is well over a hundred mosques within the city alone. The 9/11 sight has not much muslim nor any large religious populations. This is stricktly a trophy sight for all the liberals and those from the muslim world.
Is that really true? Do you have a source? Seems pretty unfair to them. I wonder if it was on some technicality or an expired lease that was too expensive to renew. Now I'm really curious to find out why they weren't allowed.

I'd still pit my HDTV/LCD against a 20 incher anytime.
Plus the theater surround sound makes the floors rumble.
I play with headphones - they work best for me as I can hear where people are. They also have a built- in microphone so I can shoot shit with my buddies haha. The other advantage of a pc is the control scheme - keyboard + mouse is superior to a gamepad for first person shooters. =P
I bet the larger hi-def screen for playing on console is pretty sweet, though I'm with Shooterx about playing on the pc. Headset saved my arse from being shot a number of times lol, and being able to goof off with fellow players is a blast. I would have to say the mouse and keyboard would be a lot easier to manipulate for controlling the different elements of FPS games. I've just become partial to pc gaming versus consoles, I enjoyed playing the PS2 and Nintendo and stuff, but once I started gaming on this nice system...no comparison in my opinion.
My kind o' girl!
Yeah, I'm a PC baby all the way - I started on consoles, but once I discovered counter-strike for PC... Let's just say that it was love at first sight.
I don't play many games but when I do I like hooking up a high def projector with a sound system. Now that is a very large clear picture and with the sound up high it feels like the bullets are zipping right by your head...
