The US has been following a more violent path ever since the veterans returned from the Civil War. And then there was Prohibition and more recently drug/gang activity. And then video games and the movie industry created entertainment that projected violence as great fun. Moving onward to our "personal freedoms" that disallow targeting and investigating individuals through profiling. Individuals with certain mental problems are now mainstreamed, whereas in prior generations they may have been institutionalized.

Summary...the US has by itsself created a lot of these violent people, and on leaves them on the streets.

I live in a rural area and would have to wait minimun of half an hour (on a good day) for law enforcement to show up to protect my family from a violent person after money or thrills. The mere fact that I most likely have a firearm could cause violent people to skip my house as they cruise for homes to strike.

But a thirty round magazine for a civilian weapon is too much.
