that's true, I def don't want to come out because of the prejudice but If I don't then I would be Living a LIE! I dint choose to be gay but its not at all bad. And Its fun to be who I am!Regaeman Man

oh, i'm quit happy myself, but really, i was making a point to all those people who think it's a choice. it's like saying being black is a choice or being latino is a choice. it's just stupid. :)

How about "Reluctance" or "Seduction" always amongst my favorites!

already have a reluctance catagory. as for seduction, that's too broad - think about it - a daughter seducing her father: incest. a guy seducing a guy: gay. girl seducing girl: lesbian. girl seducing guy: straight sex.

if sexuality was a choice, i doubt very much that people would choose to be gay, considering the amount of prejudice leveled against homosexuals. trust me, it's not easy being green... um... gay... sorry kermit! :)

Topic I LOVE THE NEW FEATURE!!!!!
Posted 16 May 2013 23:54

I don't know if this has been said or not, but I love that you can see who scored and commented in the Timeline, but it would be cool WHAT they scored you. Like "So and so scored you and 3 on She Likes It In Her Bum"... I think it would be cool. Me thinks.

no. if people want someone to know what they scored, they can leave it in the comments. if someone is 1 bombing people, it triggers a flag in staff. believe it or not, a 3 is listed as thinking a story is average. yes, lush scores tend to be exagerated, but a 3 is actually a fair rating. sure, it's no fun to get them, but i have gotten 3s and you know? doesn't really bother me all that much - 1s or 2s, yes - i KNOW my stories are not sub standard, but 3s are fine.

i really don't want to have to start policing voting - that's just not how this site works. people should not feel that that HAVE to give someone 4s or 5s. if they think a story is average, they shouldn't be discouraged from scoring it thus. yes, i am pro writer, but i am also pro freedom of expression. hell, if we're going to start policing voting how about if there's only one choice - you can only vote 5s - that way everyone will be happy with their score. :)

sorry, poppet, i love you dearly, but just no. this is a really bad idea. hell, i'm not even sure i like that you can see who's voted, cause really, it's pretty easy to figure out who's voted what if you want to monitor it carefully and i'd really rather worry about writing then making sure i'm getting all 4s and 5s. hell, getting to the point where people are even upset with a 4 - 4 is a damn good score. not every story here is a 5. 5 is supposed to be damn near perfect, you know :)

Percentage of Lush authors who are moderators = 1%

Percentage of Recommended Read badge holders who are moderators = 46.5%

Well played!

not really very surprising seeing as one of the main criteria for picking moderators on Lush is because of their writing skills. i really hope you're not suggesting that my two RRs, out of a library of close to 100 stories and poems weren't earned or deserved?

I'm sure that will be reflected in the distribution of the awards then :)

i like to think that it already has. i see some awards going to writers who actually aren't 'superstars' and have gone under the radar for a while, some i've never even noticed until now.

Topic New recommendation symbol
Posted 16 May 2013 11:18

Sadly, I thought that would be the case, and I will not leave that unanswered.

I have been vocal in both my dislike of a picture and my extreme happiness in my work even being thought it was worth it. I don't doubt that there is venting being done by folks about "jokingly" wanting to remove said awards. That's fine., do as you please.

But as I have said before, and I will say again, this is NOT personal, and it is NOT people saying the award is crap. People moan about the statues and trophy designs for big award events the world over. Why should Lush be any less important?! They can be grateful and pleased with the recognition, and still not like the marker for it.

Please, moderators, please try to see this from the angles in which this thread was made. It was not started on a mission to diss the moderator team/members, nor was it to belittle what we feel is a huge recognition. It was about something that aesthetically was not pleasing to some eyes.

If the Recommended Read award is given at the whim of whether somebody finds an author's forum posts regarding a colour/form/size of something ungracious or not, or removed because of it, then where does that leave us?

This is not personal or ungracious towards the award or the givers of it. I fully expect the symbol to remain in its design. I would expect nothing less. But it doesn't stop me having my opinion on it. Again, I am extremely grateful and still a bit unsure as to how I was so recognised. But because I gave a negative opinion on something I don't like the look of, should I now stop striving to better my writing?

Should I see the mods as people who give and judge by a person's posts and opinions, rather than their writing? Just as you judge us by our posts regarding a small blue badge, so authors judge mods by their posts regarding how awards are made. I am sad that the moderators feel under personal attack. That is NOT what this is.

I will get used to the blue tick, just as I knew I would have to. I had a vent. It's a blue tick; I didn't like the way it looked; I'll get over it.

But I will not get used to people thinking they are personally under attack and striking out because of it, when they are not. I will not get used to the fact I stated it was an honour to have the award. It isn't about the award. It's about a white tick on a blue box that nobody will think looks odd when it's been there a while.

You react as you wish, and I will sadly draw my own conclusions. This was NOT an "us and them" situation (at least for me). But it feels like it now. And it's a very sad day. I have known both sides of the fence, and this is horrible, because it was never about awards and how they are given (or not, as you have clearly implied). It's about a white tick on a blue box.

don't worry about it, Daisy. nothing like that is actually going to happen, and we do get it. that said, you have to admit that this is a little frustrating on our part. we found a way to honor some great stories and give some authors a thumbs up, so to speak, and it was greeted with a 'it's kind of ugly' response. we're only human and we have bad days too which will sometimes lead to someone rolling down the window and giving you the finger as they drive by. trust me, awards will never be handed out based on anything said or not said in this thread. a good story is a good story and that's all there is to it. :)

Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, was an actress/model and seemed to lead a reasonably healthy lifestyle. She struggled with ovarian cancer for 8 yrs before she finally died at age 56. Angelina's grandmother died at 45. AND... she has the BRCA gene. That's a lot of things against her chances to remain cancer free for life. Sure she could have taken a 'wait and see' approach until she's actually got cancer cells growing within her and then go for rounds of chemo, hope to go into remission and continue to be hypervigilant if she manages to catch it early but the stressors that come with all that are very real.

There's also the chance of something going misdiagnosed - especially if she has dense fibrous breasts that make mammograms more difficult to read. At least this gives her some peace of mind and that can be worth a lot on its own - to not have to worry - to not have to contemplate the accuracy of mammograms or whether this year is "the year" that she'll need to have chemo and deal with a serious health battle. Sure, other health issues can arise in anyone - but, damn - 87% is a scary stat.

Obviously she's not suggesting women rush out to get this done just because there's breast cancer in the family. But hey - it's her choice to have it done. Christina Applegate did the same thing a few yrs ago but with less media fanfare than this. It's obviously a personal choice, just as any elective surgery is - whether it's for cosmetic of preventative health reasons. In Angie's case she's watched the agony of seeing family members die and doesn't want to put her own family through the same thing.

I'm surprised people have issues with it. It's not like this is a bill to force all women with BRCA or familial histories to do this - she made the choice and then shared it with the public. No big deal. I doubt women will be storming their surgeons' office to get the same thing done on a whim. We're not children - we can take responsibility for our lifestyles and choices, and yes, even those options that we maybe can't afford, without indulging victimized tantrum-throwing lapses of logic because of it.

part of the issue here, is the personality. for some reason, people HATE Ms Jolie. they still blame her for 'breaking up America's perfect marriage of Brad and Jen'. I bet real money that, if Jennifer Aniston had come out and had the same thing done, people would be 100% behind her, but because it's Angie, it's a different reaction. ou bet i would do something similar. for those of you not aware of everything that goes hand in hand with treatment, a little information: .

chemotherapy is a poison. it kills cells. fact: treatment for cancer in the form of chemotherapy takes 10 years off your life. that's literal. if you would have normally lived to 80 and you've gone thru chemo, that number is reduced to 70. Twice in one life time, if it comes back and has to be treated again, it now become 60. that's why preventative measures are better than reactive. now, i'd had a normal chance of getting breast cancer would i have done this? no. 87% is NOT a normal chance, tho.

so, like i said, i applaud her decision. i'd have done the same.

It does seem discriminatory not to have a DILF category. I'm sure there are a few folks who want to read about younger women lusting after older men.

Edit: If anyone suggests this 101 word bandwagon, I'll get my arse kicking machine out. Stupid fad.

i believe we've actually had a discussion on DILF recently and it was decided not to add that catagory - i wish i could tell you the exact reasoning, but i recall it as being fairly sound.

Topic Prostate Cancer chances high - I guess I should get mine removed now?
Posted 15 May 2013 15:11

i would have done the same. thing is, she's just removed her risk. not taking any action until you actually have cancer is risky. at best, you still have your breasts removed, you have to go thru chemo and radiation and you may very well die. it'd be one thing if you have relatively low risk but 87% it's pretty much a given that she'll end up going a lot that she now never has to worry about. and it's not just her. it takes a toll on family as well - 8 kids and a husband who have to go thru it with her. i think what she did was not only incredibly brave, but incredibly wise as well.

Given that this was brought up in a public forum and, as with every other thread on this site or indeed the internet, people have their own opinions and like to share them.

I hadn't heard anyone complain about the original, black icon that appeared. Everyone seemed to like it well enough and those fortunate enough to have one against one of their stories were (as far as I have seen and heard) very pleased indeed to have that honour bestowed.

I personally don't like the check mark in blue and I said so - I also, like others who've posted here, made suggestions for alternatives - that doesn't mean that I didn't appreciate any work which had gone into it.

The new icon seems unpopular and, given that it's something which appears on pages of contributors to the site, I'd have thought that feedback would not only be welcomed, but necessary. We can choose our avatars, backgrounds etc, why should it be a surprise that we'd want to have a say on this.

Whether we volunteer our time as part of the moderating team, contribute to the forums and chat rooms, support the site by purchasing gold memberships or spend many hours writing stories for everyone else to read, we are ALL valuable members of the site. But we are all also putting ourselves out there to be judged by our Lush peers - whether your forum post gets slated or praised, your story gets comments or votes (or not), it is a public place and as such, we can expect that, sometimes, the 'masses' will not like what we say or do.

That's life, that's the internet and instead of getting upset about this, perhaps we should remember that none of this is a personal slight, develop thicker skins and be thankful that people care enough about Lush to offer their opinions, suggestions, creations and ideas to make it the place that we love so much.

There is a Lush improvement thread, perhaps this is where we should be discussing this?

i don't disagree with at single word of this, Mazza. right now, though, i'm being incredibly sensitive on the issue. think it's time to remove myself from this thread. for the record, tho, i think that 6 or 7 people not liking it is hardly a majority. ok. that was my final word on the matter.

Maybe!!! WTF is a laurel? hahaha help me out here bunny

lau·rel (lôrl, lr-)
n.
1. A Mediterranean evergreen tree (Laurus nobilis) having aromatic, simple leaves and small blackish berries. Also called bay5, bay laurel, sweet bay.
2. A shrub or tree, such as the mountain laurel, having a similar aroma or leaf shape.
3.
a. A wreath of laurel conferred as a mark of honor in ancient times upon poets, heroes, and victors in athletic contests . Often used in the plural.
b. Honor and glory won for great achievement. Often used in the plural.
tr.v. lau·reled also lau·relled, lau·rel·ing also lau·rel·ling, lau·rels also lau·rels
1. To crown with laurel.
2. To honor, especially with an award or a prize .

sometimes i'm sorry i share things - i try very hard to keep the doors open, make things transparent, to share what goes on, to make sure that people feel a part of the site - and they should, it belongs to everyone. that all said, someone put a lot of their own time into designing icons to be used, guided by suggestions coming from Nicola and the staff and we spent a lot of time trying to come up with a way to recognize writers beyond the EP. this was, from start to finish, a discussion that was conceived of months ago.

what i hear is people concentrating on how much they hate the symbol. sorry. i'm damn proud of the check mark next to my stories and i'm damn proud of the person who designed it. if you want to turn this thread into ridicule, well, that's on you. too often here, people can just be thoughtless. i do it from time to time, too, but really, there are better ways to go about things then put them down. i thought i was giving Liz some well deserved credit, but instead, i kind of put a target on her back, at least that's how i feel. thanks, guys. next time i'll keep my mouth shut.
