All There Will Ever Be

What the night brings me before the dawn brings me reality.
This poem only available on Lush Stories

The night air sings across my tingling skin;
These sensations of you and your presence
Hum an anthem of excitement into indigo velvet,
Studding the moonrise with the joyous glimmers
Of your eternal eyes.
I see them gleam in the gloaming,
Regarding me with what I shakingly hope is
Desire and fervour and lust and
Deep, dark, limpid,
In the purple of this starry night,
Your blue pools stir with deep arousal
For the few things I can offer you.

I have only my soul’s husk,
Broken and crushed
Like the shell of an oyster
For the want of the pearl;
My heart,
Ripped out and smeared
Like the petals of a rose
For its delicious scent;
And my spirit, now awakening
From its dark, hidden dreams
Like a beloved one called
From the sleeping sickness.

But you see that tiny, hidden light in me,
And have kindled and cherished it,
Breathed new life on it,
Poured flammable oil over it
And soaked it in happy,
Gentle, kind, unspeakable
You call forth the kindled flame
With those eyes of yours
Even as your hands reach for me
In this bed we share tonight.

I don’t know why,
But you reach for me.
Your heat pulls me towards you
Even before your arms envelop me.
And what can I give you
But my passions,
My wants,
My desires,
My hopes?
I stare into you
As you stare into me,
And I desire to give you everything.
I cannot tonight,
But in a little while,
I shall give you everything,
Because you are offering me whatever I want.

And what is it that I want?
I want to be your Everything,
To bring you oceans of sweeping joys,
And wave upon wave of rainbow arches;
A grin to the moon and back
And out to the farthest reaches
Of this galaxy of exploration;
The torrential rains of quenching
Heartsong that waters the driest,
Most barren deserts of loneliness;
To unleash the raging storms of
Passionate desire and
Sate your crazed needs in words
And deed
And thought.

And for this one moment,
In this secret fantastical night,
You reach towards me for all of that,
As if I am the one who could bring it to you,
As if I am the one who can make your heart sing
And hold your soul in my hands and nurture your growing,
As if I am the one who can hold up your spirit when you struggle,
And rein you back when you lose control.
As if I am the woman you desire.

The cold light of day is coming.
And with the dawning of that day will come
The fierce, prevailing wind of broken, lost dreams
That lace the edges of this single, most beautiful night
With a bitter, ripped edging of pain.
And with the crushing of my never-ending fantasy,
The horrible hope that I could be in this
Scented, tingling, star-studded night once more, for real,
Will be dealt a death blow.
My tiny, wavering light will be hidden
In the depths once again.

As you hold me in your arms
With the promise of my whole self
Freely offered to you,
I know what the day's dawning will bring to your eyes,
Even though that stubborn Hope
Will not stop tormenting me.

And I shall grasp this Tonight of ours,
For all of the bitter, sorrowful lace,
And love you in it whilst I can,
Because I know that tonight is all there will ever be.

I'm late in discovering this gem but what a loss it would have been if I had not found this amazing, beautifully expressed poem. I was swept along with the intensity, honesty, loveliness of your words, the rhythm, the music. You are true poet.

I took Miss Laura's words to heart ... I gave you a 5 .. But I would have anyway. That was ... simply amazing! Those first three lines sucked me in and the rest just blew me away. Sincerely; a magnificent work of art.

Well women who use the word "indigo" are pretty much usually at the top of my pile. When you juxtapose it with "velvet" you've really got my full attention! Wow very nice!!

I actually don't know where to start, this left me speechless. Your words are filled with beauty, passion and love. I tried to pick one line that resonated within, I simply couldn't, I loved everything about this poem. Added to my favorites!
