Downpour

Strolling down by the river, near our favorite little waterfall.
The bubbling waters and crisp fall air feel so refreshing.
Cleansing our lungs and our minds.
We walk hand in hand, smiling.

Stopping to pick a few Purple Hearts and buttercups just for you.
The clouds begin to roll in and threaten.
The wind blusters, causing us to huddle together.
Neither of us minding the closeness a bit.

As it begins to drizzle, we hurry for shelter.
First walking, then jogging. Laughing.
Trying to stay ahead of the slow, full drops of rain.
We get home just as the downpour begins.

You grab my hand and lead me to the big bay window.
Neither of us bothering to stop to dry off.
We sit and watch the pounding wind and rain.
Our arms around each other, watching the relentless skies.
It's our first storm of the season.

The rain streaks rivers down the window pane.
Our warm breath fogging the window.
You turn your head to me, grinning widely.
You love this weather as much as I do.
I take your cold cheeks in my hands and pull your lips to mine.
We kiss deeply. I savor your soft lips.

I feel you shiver. We grab a throw and cuddle into the warm fleece.
Our bodies pressed together, keeping you toasty in my arms.
You cuddle into my lap, your back against my chest as we both face the window.
My arms wrapped around you, caressing your tummy.
Sharing this special day, closer than ever.
