First Love

I meet the love of my life

When I was young, I met a girl
Of beauty beyond compare,
Tip tilted nose, sparkling eyes
And silken dark brown hair.

We met in the beautiful garden
Of my home at Hayford Hall,
Among flowering Rhododendrons
By the sound of a waterfall.

It was Spring and all was beautiful,
The garden, to the moorland high above
I looked into her smiling face
And knew, I was in love.

Very evocatice and lyrical David. I agree, rhyming every second line gives the piece a slower, more dignified and stately tone. Well Done.

-So simple and so smooth, I love this poem Regello! The use of only 2 rhymes per 4 lines helps to not make it sing-song in rhythm and therefore more mature, and the simplicity of language is contrasted with the vividness of the imagery of gardens, waterfalls, flowers, and moorlands. It takes me back to reading some of my favorite Romantic poets (not poets who wrote of romance but nature, like Wordsworth or Keats) and it really evokes both pure love and love of literature. Heck, this could have been written 200 years ago! -I confess that I like this one even better than your previous two and I hope to read more soon!
