There are dark and hidden parts of me
Parts I don't let even you see
I have cracks and broken edges
Memories I would love to set free

Oftentimes the ones we trust
Leave the most damage behind

Pain does not leave physical damage
The scars on our hearts are unseen

I pray the scars will be wiped away clean

When I think I have tucked them away
My fears find their way to the surface
And the past seeps back into today

Love me even though I am damaged inside
I believe in our happiness even in spite
Of all of the pain that was inflicted before you
In my darkest places, I am hungry for light

Love is a beautiful double edged blade
Making one feel they can fly
Or it can pierce like a knife straight to the heart

Every time you show me your love
I feel my scars continue to heal
The pain that I hide is dimming somehow
Each day I have less to conceal.
