I ruined one love, one perfect love.
I was frightened,
and pushed him as far away as I could.
I set my standards high
And kept expecting him to meet them.
I ruined that love,
then I did it again.
He was perfect for me,
I can say that without an ounce of shame.
Our love was good,
Full of laughter and respect,
He loved me and encouraged me to be myself,
I was loved because I was myself,
Then I ruined it.
Out of habit I pushed that crazy bar a bit too high,
And destroyed a good love.
No one ever loved me the way he did,
It felt good to be loved by him.
In the past I fought too many times,
too often at least for my liking,
Now is the time for me to change,
And set my standards straight;
I can't risk ruining another love ever again.
