I can’t walk away from this
I can’t sever the binding ties
I feel the filaments of our emotions
Stretch across the world
Time
Space
Don’t mean a thing
As they extend
Intertwine
I fear for that moment
When they will become taut
To point of recoil
What will happen then?
Will my heart snap in two as well?
Even while waddling in the unknown
Even filled with uncertainty
I can’t walk away from this
I can’t sever the binding ties
I am begging you
Tell me what to do
A friend of mine, a Canadian reservist who recently deployed overseas had the misfortune of falling madly in love before shipping off. In his last email I sensed him to be conflicted and pained - his words inspired this poem.
