My Apology to You, Mike

An apology to a deceased ex-husband..too little, too late
What I did to you was a disgrace

I let him in to take your place

He speaks of you often by name

To keep reminding me of the shame

He never accepts any of the blame

I should have realized that from the start

He just needed an out, and toyed with my heart

Karma was creeping at a steady pace

Not only did it bite my ass, it slapped me in the face

So meeting him online that brought us a new start

Has turned into the mistress that tore us apart

Our fifteen years together went swiftly down the drain

As quickly as the summer sun dries the afternoon rain

He’s gone now and my life with him is through

At first it hurt a lot and made me really blue

But each day gets easier and to myself I’ll be true

I just wanted to say, “I’m sorry, Mike,” for ever hurting you

It's heart felt. If we could only relive our mistakes.

Wow, what an awesome sentiment. With prayer, I'm sure you'll find peace. I'm so happy you shared this- even as difficult as I'm sure it is. Beautiful words.

Once again, as I've often found with you, you've penned a powerful message with a few well chosen words.

Good to regret after all. Some time one has to express regrets. I hope you have mental peace now as you expressed your regrets. 5

Mike forgave you long before his time was up. From what you have said, he forgave you even as you left him, and accepted full responsibility for what he himself had done. You didn't leave him for the man you talk about in the lines above; you left him for a man who had won your heart and soul. You could not go back to Mike when you lost that man because you could not forgive yourself for leaving him in the first place. But he not only forgave you, he willed you Christopher -- your son together, to go with the brother and sister you created out of love with Greg. You had never forgiven yourself ... until your apology to Mike. Now you have. You never needed forgiveness from anybody else, only love. You had Mike's love from the first day he knew you until his last day on earth, and you have the love of so many others by right of virtue -- I love you along with your many friends here, your children love you and perhaps some surprising people love you. Take care of yourself. XOXO

Yeah, we do "stupid" things and then have second thoughts that will never leave - just torment us. Thank you Joannie for sharing your story and once again for warning and advising me.

What a lovely sentiment. You have a lovely heart and soul. I wish I could hug you. You fondly remember the man you left behind for a man who didn't really care, but wanted some eye candy. We all live with our mistakes. We need to put them aside but remember and learn from them. You are doing that. Beautiful words Joanie. ILY
