This biting night is cold and lonesome:
Echoes of the monstrous past
Are creeping up and nipping at me,
My spirit terrified, aghast.
The nails of fear are ripping through me,
Slicing open hidden worries;
Skin in shreds and bleeding fiercely,
Shining barbs fly round in flurries.

Screaming voices, hate and anguish,
Temporal fears solidify,
This waking nightmare murders sleeping,
Ancient spectres wail and cry.
This foul and loathesome soul of mine
Is crawling, creeping in the dark;
Those blunt and ugly arrowheads
Fly wide but never miss their mark.

The ghosts fly through me, icy cold,
And shiver down this shattered heart;
This broken, dark, decaying spirit
Is rained upon with poisoned dart.
These monsters and their fearsome horrors
Claw open wounds that once were healed,
And distant words of thumping malice
Laugh as this empty hole's revealed.

What would I give for your arms round me?
What would I give for safety now?
What would I give for gentle smiling?
What would I give for heartfelt vow
To keep me close enveloped in
A world of kindly joy and peace?
What could I give to one who'd save me
And make these agonies all cease?

What could I offer in return
For chasing all this dark away?
What could I give to one who'd love me
And keep these noisome fears at bay?
For all I have is crushed and broken,
Worthless, fearful, decaying, dead,
In need of loving restoration,
A shattered heart and worried head.

But should you choose to offer me
Your arms and lovingly understand,
I'd learn to scrape together pieces
Of my heart and hold it in my hand.
We'd look at this, all bruised and bloody,
All broken, still and flattened now.
And if you choose to drop shared tears
And smiles onto it, perhaps... somehow...

This heart of mine could be revived,
My mind and spirit made anew.
Accept me as I was, and now am,
Just as I would accept you.
And maybe in these nights and storms
Where darkness tries to overtake,
The sun will rise on us together,
And from this nightmare, we'll awake.

Your arms round me and mine round you,
Together, as the dawn arrives,
We'll find inside our arms, alike,
That love makes sure our hope survives.
Don't write me off, I just need time,
I just need to be held awhile;
And one day, when this night is banished,
You'll see a new day in my smile.
