Like a flicker of light inside us

A glowing pearl of thought

A windswept cliff on a distant shore

A mountain peak capped with snow

A beauty of such painful sorrow

As we leave that thing unsaid

Though we both know it’s there

A treasure between us

A small trinket of surpassing beauty

A rare gem of aching worth

And virtue

That we cradle in our hands, fingers entwined

As our hearts are entwined

In a mysterious puzzle

Of tangled emotion and

Interwoven paths

That our feet were set upon by fate

Before we ever met

Before we ever knew or dreamed

And fate laughed at our winnowing souls

Like a child full of delight

At her wicked jest

As she danced around our sentient forms

And plucked words from our heads

And spoke them to our hearts

And taught us to feel
