The Softness of Goodnight

This poem only available on Lush Stories. If you are reading it elsewhere, it has been stolen.

"Goodnight," she whispered.

"Goodnight," he said softly,
His voice drifting beyond
The silence of the closed line,
And hanging like soft smoke in the air
Above her sleepy head.

Sadly,
She snuggled down into the duvet,
The fragrant sweetness of his spoken incense
Lulling her to sleep
With gentle, singing sighs.

His presence enveloped her,
His warmth beneath the sheets
Embracing her body.
So many miles away,
And yet he lay beside her.

She felt his whispered tenderness
Kiss her skin,
And the weight of his body alongside hers.

She turned towards him in her waking dream
As sleep tried to claim her.
She wondered if,
On the other side of the world,
He was turning towards her too.

Her pretty eyelids were closed
Against the night's darkness
And the solitude of an empty bed.
Even in her sleepy thoughts,
She dared not open them to the starry loneliness,
Lest it chase his smile away
And the watchlights shone on her in pity.

She felt his breath on her face,
And his hand as he reached for her leg.
She smiled as he raised her from behind the knee,
Pulling her over his hip
And sliding his own leg between both of hers.

Her sighs were soft,
Warm,
Gentle,
Happy,
And she cradled his face with an open palm,
Touching the heavy, heated air
And feeling his hot cheek press up to greet her hand.

So real,
So living,
The need and desire
Made him manifest
Alongside the desires she lay down in his arms.

Face to face,
She felt the feather touch of his mouth,
An almost-kiss,
So close they breathed each other's breath
And tasted intimacy in exhalations of yearning
From the other side of the world.

Her inner being throbbed for his touch,
To feel him inside her
And brush her tears of wanting away.
She leaned back her shoulder
For his hot hand to hold her breast,
The ache of longing humming in her heart.

Oh, but that he would hold her now,
To spend those moments of passionate loneliness
In tender coupling and comfort.
She wondered if he could feel her breath
On his face like she felt his,
As if they ghosted their need across the miles
And filled the air with droplets of juices
That formed their bodies with hungry desires.
In the witching hour, could they find some connection,
The veil between their worlds parted
And the desperate longing drawing them together
To kiss below the stars
And make love in a magical forest of dreams?
Could such urgent craving ever be sated
And the sparkle of their eyes be a feast for each other,
Even as their joining melded the sun and moon into
One, frightening, hideously beautiful creature
That roared the universe away in fearsome, graceful thrusts?

Sadly,
She snuggled down into the duvet,
The fragrant sweetness of his spoken incense
Lulling her to sleep
With gentle, singing sighs.
