The music pounded into my ears as I leaned forward to take another drink order, trying not to think about the low cut V of the tee shirt that proudly bore the name of the bar I worked at. I loved the job-most of it-but I was not a fan of the shirt when the customers stared down it as this guy was presently doing. “Your order?” I reminded him, smirking as he blushed and looked into my bright green eyes.
"Guinness,” he muttered, and I turned to grab it for him. I looked across the room towards the office, seeing my best friend Liv standing in the hallway involved in a conversation. She owned the bar and had hired me straight away once she heard I was moving to New York from California after ending a two-year relationship. I let my eyes drift over to the man she was talking to, feeling my heart sink as I took in his loose brown curl and deep olive skin.
Not him. Not tonight.
I had thought that Liv's brother Tanner was in Europe all summer and that I wouldn't relive that night we'd spent together. He'd been drunk while I was pretty sober that night in February for Liv's birthday. I didn't even know if he remembered it. I certainly did...the deep kisses, his hands all over my body. I'd never forget the way he felt slipping inside of me with one easy thrust, sliding into my tight core as I'd moaned his name.
“Dari!” I turned to the voice that called to me from the end of the bar, pushing back the messy night into the depths of my mind. It didn't matter. I brushed my angled red hair back behind my ears and ran some gloss over my lips before I threw myself into the chaos that was my job. Liv ran a great club here after inheriting it from her uncle for her twenty-first birthday. She'd redone the building and hired the best in the city and the success showed every night when her and I did the numbers. I was proud of her, but I felt like I was spinning my own wheels sometimes.
I grabbed a glass of cold water as Benny locked the doors, ready to clean up and head home for some sleep. We wiped down the bar, talking animatedly about the night as the DJ took care of his corner. My ears were ringing in the silence of the bar, but I enjoyed the silence after all of the noise. I frowned as I heard a laugh from Liv's office, realizing that Tanner was still here. I sighed as I grabbed the registers and took them back, pushing open the office door to enter. I smiled weakly at the siblings as I set them down, seeing the receipts that she'd pulled all night on the desk. “Another good one, Liv.”
"It was great,” she smiled at me as I leaned against the desk, looking between her brother and I.
“Hey Darian. Good to see you,” Tanner told me, and I turned my head to meet his all-too-charming smile. He'd been hot in high school, playing hockey and breaking a lot of hearts along the way. He'd also been my secret crush that I'd never even breathed about.
“You're back. How was the league there?” I asked him easily, controlling my voice tightly as I tried to avoid his whiskey gaze that would pull me under all over again.
“I tore my knee to hell, but it was fun while it lasted. I'm here doing therapy and healing up and I'll join the Bears again.” Tanner explained, and I looked at him with a sympathetic gaze. He still looked so good, older and stronger now. I remembered the way he'd nipped at my neck, down my body as I blushed deeply.
“I'm...sorry. I know you'd wanted more there,” I offered weakly, seeing how his eyes focused on my pale skin with a restrained shudder.
“It's fine. I'm here with the family again,” he assured me as I nodded. They were all so close, while my parents were divorced and busy with new spouses and families.
“I'm sure they're happy about that,” I said, turning to see the beaming smile on my best friend's face. She certainly was. “Need help tonight?”
“Sure, since Tan is taking us out for breakfast,” Liv told me, and I pressed my lips together.
“I'm wiped, Liv. I was going to go home and crash.” We shared a place and I needed to be alone.
“Come on. I gave you tomorrow off already,” Liv pleaded with me, as I rolled my eyes.
“Fine.” I helped her with the closing, feeling Tanner watching me as we talked about the summer. The three of us locked up and left, heading towards the Brooklyn Diner as I pulled a denim jacket over my arms. Tanner slid his arms through ours, holding us close to his side as I remembered how his bare skin had felt against mine as I came for him with a keening cry. Breakfast was delicious as we talked and chatted, laughing at old stories since we'd all known each other since we were tots. He was two years older than both Liv and I, and she'd just celebrated her twenty-second birthday while mine had been a month before hers.
Tanner walked us back to the apartment, kissing Liv's cheek as she entered and looking at me. He had an apartment down the hall, further showing me how close he was to his sister. I'd slept with him there and I looked down the hallway longingly as I leaned against the wall. “Thanks for breakfast.”
“No problem, Dar.” Tanner replied, turning my face to look into his eyes. I was alone with him since my door was closed and my heart started pounding deep in my chest. “Want to come and watch a movie with me?”
“What? It's two o'clock,” I answered as he shrugged.
“I'll walk you back if you stay awake,” Tanner promised me, and I looked into his eyes. Did he remember? “Liv knows I was going to ask you.” He smiled at me as he took my hand, leading me to his door. We'd always been affectionate, being as close as we were but I seemed to analyze everything now. It was slowly destroying me and I'd been partially relieved for the distance.
Tanner unlocked his door and let me inside as he closed the door behind us. I headed to the living room, accepting his offer of water and sank down onto the couch as I closed my eyes. This is where we'd kissed like we'd never stop after the party. It had been building all night for some strange reason. “Here, D.” I forced my eyes open as I accepted the cold bottle, watching as he sipped his beer with one long swallow. Tanner excused himself and walked back to his room, returning in a pair of track pants as he threw a shirt at me. “I know you hate that shirt that Liv makes you wear.” He grinned as I looked sharply at him. “I think it looks good on you personally.”
I shook my head and went into the bathroom, changing from my shirt and mini skirt into his shirt which was soft and worn. It went down to my lower thighs, longer than the skirt, and I swallowed heavily and dropped it. I'd taken off the bra that I wore to hide my goods and my nipples pebbled against it as I groaned. I glanced down at the floor to see if there were any boxers, opening the door to look towards the living room. It was dark, lit only by the television.
“Thanks,” I told him as I walked into the room and slid onto the couch a couple feet away from him as he scrolled down the menu quickly. I grabbed a soft blanket and draped it over my legs as I settled back and took a sip of the water.
“Looks good on you. Is Insidious good?” Tanner asked, and I nodded slowly. It hadn't scared me in the theater with Colby. I glanced over at his chest as he selected it and pressed my lips together as I eyed him.
“So do you want to talk about it?” Tanner asked me as the movie started, meeting my eyes.
“I wasn't that drunk, Dar. I was well-aware of everything that happened that night as well as how much I wanted it.” Tanner told me, making me hide further under the blanket. “You weren't drunk, either. You were very willing.”
“Don't remind me,” I muttered, seeing him frown.
“Do you regret that night? I seem to remember you kissing me back and going along with it just fine.” Tanner moved closer, looking into my eyes in the dark. “I never took you for that kind of girl, Darian. I figured if you were here, it meant something.”
“I'm not that kind of girl,” I told him, shooting up from my shelter under the blanket. I'd just admitted something, though I was fuzzy on what.
Tanner leaned closer, capturing my lips with his as I closed my eyes. The first kiss had been hungry and demanding, fueled by too much flirting throughout the night. This was sweet and slow. “I knew that it meant something,” he whispered against my lips, making me lean up for another. I brushed my lips against his slowly and dropped back.
“Your Liv's brother,” I whispered back, raising my eyes to his.
“She is well-aware of my feelings for you,” Tanner assured me, and I drew my lip between my teeth as he dropped his gaze to them. He slipped his hand around me and pulled me closer to him, sucking my lip slowly as I groaned against him. “I hate the way you do that with your fucking teeth. It has driven me crazy since you got back into town.”
“Oh,” I murmured, letting him kiss me again as he slipped me over his lap. I felt naked. “Do you remember everything that night?”
“Hmmm...I can still taste you. I can still feel you against me and your legs wrapped around me,” Tanner told me, making my skin heat up as he slid his hands under the shirt I was wearing and pushed it over my head. I still remember the way that you tightened around me when you came.” He slipped his hands down to my ass and pulled me up to take one of my nipples into his mouth. His tongue teased it as I held onto his neck and leaned my face into his hair. He smelled like that soap he used and something else...something all Tanner. His hand slipped into the lace boy-shorts I was wearing, moving forward to slip his finger between my folds and move slowly as I gasped.
“Tanner...I want you.” I moaned, moving up to offer him more of my breast and urge his finger inside of me. I felt him push me back onto the couch and rip off my lace underwear with one pull, kissing me hungrily as I pulled him closer.
“You're here and you are mine.” Tanner told me, kissing down my neck as I arched my back. “You have wanted to be mine for some time and I was too blind to see it until that night.”
“I have,” I told him, weakened to his pull as he kissed between my breasts slowly.
He moved down my stomach as I gasped, parting my legs and nipping down my core. He teased me slowly with his tongue, dragging it firmly up as I moved with him. “This taste,” Tanner moaned, sucking me between his lips. “Tell me what makes you come the hardest, Dar.”
“Don't stop doing that,” I urged him, gripping his hair tightly and forcing him closer. He worked his tongue over my core between long sucks, shoving it inside of me as I closed my eyes. I ended up releasing against his fingers with my clit between his teeth as I cried out his name, watching him pull back and tug off his pants.
“Ride me,” Tanner told me, taking my hands and pulling me to him as he kissed me again. He lifted me against him and carried me to his room, both naked as we kissed sloppily. Tanner backed against the bed and scooted back as I kissed his neck and chest.
I knew that he liked his nipples being played with and I stroked him as I tugged them between my teeth. I was small enough to move over his length and slide back and forth as I teased his nipples, drenching him with my juices as he ordered me to ride him again. I lifted up as he readied himself, sliding over him hard and rough as we both cried out together. He moved with me, meeting my every thrust as our eyes locked and held, his hands holding me firmly by the hips.
I came first and he flipped me onto my back, lifting my leg to his shoulder as he drove himself deep inside of me until he swelled and stilled. He moaned my name as he came deep inside of me, making me grip the sheets and pant heavily as I closed my eyes.
“How did that compare?” Tanner asked me, dropping next to me on the mattress and stroking my stomach.
“To anyone else? Hmmm,” I teased, feeling his hand tense on my skin. I softened and looked at him. “Nobody could ever compare to you or the way that I felt about you. Tonight was only better with you because I know we were both really
I rolled onto my side and snuggled against him, inhaling his scent as my lips brushed his damp skin. My body pulsed from our tryst as I kissed his neck gently, memorizing his taste. My feelings for him were outweighing any logic that told me to run and I was heady with the thought as he pulled me closer. I didn't want to lose him if this version of us fell apart, but the way his lips felt against mine at that moment forced the thought from my head. His tongue slipped over mine, slow and teasing as I pressed closer to him. I tasted myself and just what he did to me as he dragged my leg over his body, opening me up to him as I moaned.
We made love slowly this time, feeling every thrust and sensation as if it were almost slow motion. Tanner held me by my hips as he moved, our eyes locked together as my body slowly tightened around him. “I love you,” I whispered softly as I came, watching his eyes in the light from the window. Tanner stilled and thrust one more time, deeper as he came inside of me with a groan.
He pulled out from me and pressed against me, trembling and breathing deeply. “I love you, Darian. Stay with me tonight. I want you here beside me.” I snuggled closer, letting my eyes shut and taking in the moment.
He loved me.
