Author's Notes

"Poppy seeds can lie dormant in the soil for years, emerging when they choose. The ground disturbed brought seeds to the surface, fertilized by nitrogen in the bombs, lime from destroyed buildings and the bodies of the fallen, they emerged in Flander's Field after all the devastation, showing that life can go on. Now the symbol of rememberance of those lost. A couple touched by the sacrifice of so many, decides not to wait until tomorrow to start a family."

The little poppy, brave enough to emerge from such devastation. So many lives lost here. How many young men never managed to experience the love of a woman, build a life, start a family? Mankind is so slow to learn.

We were going to wait, but for those buried here, there was no tomorrow.

Come, my dear, lie with me, naked, amid the sea of red. Let us gaze upon each other. Touch me as you have longed to. Kiss me and steal my breath. Enter me and fill me with your love and seed.

We will name her Poppy.
