That may be the best explanation I have ever heard as to why people usually say "the book was better than the movie". I totally agree. Nicely worded. Thanks :)
It's one of my favorite books of all time, and I'm super excited about the film. Having said that I'm always a bit skeptical when it comes to adaptations. Every time you read the book, you choose what is important to you, and what speaks to you. When watching an adaptation somebody else's important bits are thrust upon you. But I have a feeling it will be a great movie, and I think Leo will really shine as Gatsby.
Probably a better fit in The Pub or The Lounge, than here in this section of the forum. But hey, what do I know. Thank you for your suggestion, maybe a mod could move it there.
http://www.youtube.com/embed/PQuT-Xfyk3o Okay, so from a Lush standpoint this is a very interesting project. Just stumbled upon it today, so I wanted to share with the community. I think that it's a wonderful blend of Art and Sexuality and a definite proof that a large part of sexual excitement can come from the mind.Your thoughts?
Okay, so basically we have two camps here. One says that religion is bad, one says its good. On the one hand you can argue that religion brings false hope, and that people practicing it are basically trying to find a way of coping with the world as it is.On the other you could point out that religious people tend to be more empathic then other people. And you could argue back and forth all day long and still not reach a conclusion.I'd like to make a reference to another thread that was featured here, and that is the Socialism thread. My point there is the same as here. Religion (Socialism) is a good idea! However, the institutionalization of said idea is far form perfect. We, human beings, are flawed. We are led by our desires, and more often than not make decisions based on them. And the institution rests on human beings. Therefore the institution itself is flawed. Now, the real question, at least for me remains, is a group people that abuse children, a group of fanatics and/or a group of indoctrinated sheep a representation of the entire religion, and should religion as such be judged by the actions of a few black sheep?I say no. Christianity is great the idea of sacrificing oneself for the greater good is a moral and ethical Holy Grail, Islam is good (let us not forget that it was Islam who allowed polygamy to care for the wives and children of the killed Turkish soldiers during the Turkish wars in Europe, Buddism is good because it theaches of a balance, Judaism is gread because it really focuses on the spiritual.Basically, religions are great, it's the people that are, as always, flawed.
an acronym of my first and last name coupled with the word I. Why lord? Why the hell not? :)
Has a nice back... ground :D
Hell, an 'ism' of any kind in pure form's going to probably fail, because societies, economies, and cultures are complex. Theories applied purely into practice won't often work as planned. Damn right. Socialism is an ideology. And as such it's nothing more than a set of _ideas_ that constitute goals. The goal would be a classless society. In order to have a classless society everyone must forfeit their personal ambitions, or at least limit them to serve a greater good. Not many people can do that. Politicians the least of all, in my experience.
