Topic For all you story writers out there Question, how do you start your Stories?
Posted 06 Dec 2016 19:00

I'm no expert but usually I just start with that something that is meaningful to me (a particular scene, moment, feeling or line, say for example how the character looked in a stream of light or the facial expression it had at a specific point in time) something that has me fixating, something I really want to get just right. Then I start painting it with words, an interior dialogue, like I'm having a conversation with someone and I'm trying to let that person in on the secret; it helps me put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard these days) and once I have that "scene" I just build on it naturally, it kind of flows, I give it a setting, create a backstory or the chain reaction. But everyone has a unique and personal way of doing it, the trick is to find what works for you.

Childish unstable ridiculous people becoming teachers and showing children how to navigate the world does have something to do with the topic. Think about it.

While the influence of teachers is undeniable I must with all respect interject: it is not a teacher's job to educate your children but to teach subject A or B - it's why they are called teachers. The responsibility of teaching both genders to be mindful, considerate and respectful of each other lays with the parents. Through the course of our educational life we stumble upon dozens of people, each with their own ideas, mentality and views but the constant presence in our lives are our parents, our family. Yes, a good teacher will influence a child, however, the notions of gender equality, respect and a zero-tolerance policy towards things that in any way border on bullying, harassment and gender intimidation are and should be things that are learned and taught home.
I was brought up in a household of strong men and women and taught from an early age to stand up for myself and take no bull-shit no matter who dished it out. However, several of my teachers had other ideas, as an example a sociology professor no less who, in a class of mainly women, declared unabashedly the reason the family unit in falling apart is because of women who refuse to stay in their place - implying the kitchen, obedient at the whim of a man.
Should I have listened to that and changed my world view? Should all my classmates have taken their girlfriends and tied them to the kitchen stove?
I don't think so. And we didn't. I was pleasantly surprised to see my male colleagues voice their disapproval just like I did.
And one might say we were all grown and it's not the same but believe me when I say it can be equally intimidating and hurtful when you're only 19 years old and that man represents a figure of authority. But it doesn't mean he should mould my view of the world: that was my family's job.
Returning to Sprite's original post, I do find there is however a great lack of awareness as to what is indeed offensive when it comes to the so called "compliments" and there's a worrisome attitude among certain men who somehow feel the need to point out they can hurt -physically or otherwise- a woman just for the simple fact that she is a woman and somehow not acting on that impulse/ threat is worthy of praise. Perhaps the term, "rape culture" is a bit to serious, but I do believe, sadly, we're heading there.

Topic How do I tell a friend that I want to have sex with her?
Posted 03 Dec 2016 15:36

Everything theses guys are telling you makes sense but to be completely honest sex with friends is rarely just a one-night stand with no repercussions. So think twice before you broach the subject. And heck, yeah, if you're really feeling this friend of yours ask her, that's the only way you'll know for sure if you have a chance, but regardless of her answer don't expect things to just carry on as usual after that. Because they can't. And charming people works for sure, but there's the inherent risk of them misinterpreting things as well as wanting more and thinking you do too. On the other hand, though brutal, I think ***rainesensually*** said it best, if she hasn't given you any sign she's interested then she probably isn't.
