1 week until deadline.

A reminder, stories with less than 10 votes don't qualify.

I don't remember reading that anywhere. I thought all the submitted stories went into the pot and the judges get to chose their favorite story. In the case of disagreements the judges get locked in a room where they fight until all the other judges surrender - like they do when they're choosing a new Pope.

There is actually a separate page of general competition rules, which I can't currently find! It's possible that it's under revision, but the under-ten-votes rule has been around for at least two competitions.

I will keep trying to find it, but it may be that it needs re-posting. Usually, I find the extra link on the competition announcements page, so I can onky presume this will be sorted after the announcements of the winners of the current competition.

Shylass - yes, it's been 10+ votes for the last few competitions, but the comp rules page wasn't updated (it will be this week).

We changed it to 10, so that average scores aren't so easily manipulated. We are also now giving less priority to the average scores in the final voting process, so the "friends with benefits" factor doesn't impact the results much at all.

honestly, i'm more into it being strictly on a merit based system rather than votes. i'd prefer that rather than it being a popularity contest. honestly, some of the comp stories i read for this one that i thought were some of the better ones didn't get as many votes as they deserved. oh, and i'm not talking about mine, so this isn't sour grapes, in case there's any doubts. :) My 2 cents

Live, love, laugh.

Friend bias isn't really much of a factor. The Top 10 stories have the following # votes:

13, 10, 60, 25, 21, 17, 18, 14, 16, 11

Lisa, myself, and a few others on the judging panel, read as many of the story content entries, as we can (usually on an ongoing basis). That way, if an amazing story has somehow been overlooked (for whatever reason), it is still very likely to be picked up by one of the panel, and put in the final reckoning.

There's a weighting given to the "public" vote, and the judges' votes. I think the current system we have works well. In all the competitions we've ever ran, I've never had an author or member gripe to me about the results.

When in doubt, always side with The Matriarch. Blow smoke, kiss booty, promise sweet everythings.

You guys know the routine. Except with her - toss that book out the window.

Be original and make her spit her tea on her monitor while laughing (with guests in her house who don't know she runs the naughtiest website on the internutz).

Most intelligent people are introspective and doubt themselves while many fucktards are proudly over-confident. - a tip of the hat to Charles Bukowski

The votes are almost all in, it's very close at the moment, with 1 point separating the top 2.

Coming in a few points behind, are 3 others, who could still snatch it, but definitely in with a chance of winning that prized potato.
