James Gandolfini, who gained fame playing a memorable mafia boss on HBO's "The Sopranos" by giving the role a contemporary twist of visiting a therapist for middle-age anxieties, died after suffering a possible heart attack in Italy, an HBO spokeswoman and the actor's managers said Wednesday.

man ... Jimmy Gandolfini was a great actor! When an actor is so closely linked to their character, THAT is a True Artist!

Tony Soprano (and the entire cast) was such a fabulous believable cast.

RIP Jimmy!

What a shock to hear of his passing. The Sopranos was a great show, one of my all-time favorites. Having lived in New York most of my life and having cousins who lived in New Jersey, so many of the landmarks you see in the opening and in the show are so familiar to me. I even visited the house they use as his residence ( have a pic of me and my sister standing in front of it, LOL).

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gandolfini at a charity event. He was the polar opposite of the character he portrayed, quiet, unassuming, almost shy. He really didnt like being in the spotlight.

R.I.P James, you will be missed!!

Rest in peace. I am really bothered by this sad news. He was a great actor and died way too young. I still can't believe it. The Soprano's was one of the best TV shows in a very long time.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I had the great fortune to meet him last year... He spent a bit of time here at the Jersey Shore and was known to frequent local restaurants and businesses... I happen to be working one day as he was walking into a local establishment he was known to frequent... He flagged me down and I stopped, exiting my car to see what was wrong... I realized who it was and said "Hello Mr. Gandolfini" He smiled and said "Please, my friends call me Jim". He stopped me because he wanted to ask about one of my coworkers who talked to him on several occasions... We had a short conversation, but the man made you feel like you were friends for years... He truly was a man with a big heart and nothing like his character on the Sopranos... I know he will be greatly missed by many... My prayers to his family and friends...
