Just came out, for all those here who are in a same-sex relationship

The IRS and Treasury Dept have decided to treat same-sex marriages as any other for tax purposes - ya, you can now file jointly

For married couples filing jointly when both have incomes, there is really a disadvantage to being married. This is especially true of higher income couples. There is an advantage for couples if only one of them has an income. This will likely net the IRS more money in the long term.

This exactly for income taxes. The real benefit this ruling provides is for Estate (death) taxes. The unlimited spousal exemption is now available for same sex couples for Estate taxes, and that is where major tax relief comes into play.
