It's the kids turn to be with their Dad this year. Aunt Julie is trekking in Morocco with her latest gentleman friend as she calls them, so i'll be alone on the day.
Is there anything sadder than xmas dinner for one with a cracker that won't get pulled (no pun intended)
I think i'll take up Johns idea and volunteer at a homeless hostel, then meet on here later.

Thats exactly how I feel hence the decision many years ago to use my day to the benefit of others although as I say its so rewarding and satisfying that I too enjoy the day very much :).

Me too. Workaholic that never takes a day off. No family other than my mom, so no family to think of. So just another day, really.

Unfortunately, I will be spending some of Christmas Day in hospital, being pumped full of more medication. But that will, hopefully, only be for part of the day, and then I will come home to open my gifts and watch Christmas films, and eat as much turkey as my body can handle! evil4 My evening will probably consist of being visited by the crazies (family), being forced to play board games, and watch them partake in drunken arguments over who won. And I will be sipping on my hot chocolate in my pjs, seeing as I am banned from alcohol! angry7

I could sneak some into hospital for you :)

"Excuse me, miss!"

"Yes?"

"Are you aware of our policy on bring food onto the wards?"

"Erm... yes."

"Well, I don't mean to be blunt but... either you have two marshmallows stuffed under your t-shirt, or those are some HUGE nipples!"

Hope you're not cooped up in there too long Hugs

Opening gifts, watching movies. Spending time with family. Waking up early to feed the homeless. I always go home for the holidays, and the normalcy that comes with those traditions are better than any gift I could ever receive...although I usually get some pretty great gifts. Embarassed

Will be me, my Mum and Dad, my Grandma and Grandad and my other Grandma (Nana) from Prague will be here! Yippeee! I go out for a walk in the morning (hope it's snowing) then come back and play a game while Mum does the dinner. We open the presents after dinner (cos we're posh lol).

Care for elderly inlaws first take fatherinlaw to see wife in nursing home, then pick up his first wife and taker home with him for rest of day, could be a disaster but that is family. O and sneak onto lush and get some pleasure for myself before take them all home and then go feed dogs and help wife clean up, pop back to lush for little more sustenance and have some wine cheers.

Well christmas is huge for my little family. Beside my kiddies i am surrounded by nephew and nieces. So it goes time for me and hubby first as my kids still sleep in on christmas YES , then little christmas at our home for just us, then my side of the family at the beach then friends. Boxing day start all over again ,to his side of the family then extended families then friends lol.
Over fed over drunk and over wanting to do anything except lay about in the pool.
And in between all of that some very fond thoughts for the ones i love but cant be with.

I will exchange presents with my wife in the morning. We'll have dinner with the in-laws (exchange presents), & evening at my parents & family (exchange presents).

But the time leading up to Christmas Day is most fun, buying Toys For Tots, Secret Santa, doing Salvation Army bell ringing, giving coats and food to homeless, and stuff like that makes me think Christmas.

Life has changed a lot in the last few years for me. After losing my mum 7 years ago ... Christmas has lost its luster. It's not that big of a deal anymore. I usually have a special brunch in the morning with my children - then I insist they enjoy time (Christmas dinner and evening) with their grandparents (their father's side) as they are in their 80's and won't be around forever.

I will likely go for a long walk, see if there is a movie to see and eventually head over to enjoy dinner with my Aunt who is alone this year.

In my world, Christmas is pared back, simple, relaxing and nothing hurried.

Spending it with as many of my kids and grand kids and great grand kids as I can. Maybe some time with a friend.

Family is what it's all about.

I am always a gentleman.

Giving away the house to the kids.

Setting a trap for Santa. When that doesn't work (again.. crafty bugger!), spending the day with family.

An exciting change of plans will have me soaking up the sun, enjoying sand between my toes, and doing some wind surfing.

sounds like I might be working. Oh well, I'll make up for it this spring when the sun is out & shining on a beach somewhere.

Well we were meant to be going off to Florida to stay with extended family and meet a couple of lushies. But now we are keeping to the freezing weather without any plans other than waking at stupid o'clock with the kids.
